The Altapura stands out in the Val Thorens landscape with its strikingly bold and Nordic architecture. Built and run by the Sibuet family, who have much experience in running ski hotels in the Alps, the Altapura offers modern five star luxury and efficient, personal service, at the top of the world's largest ski area. Based at the foot of the slopes, it has a perfect ski in/ski out location, and is only 400m away from the centre of Val Thorens.
The hotel calls itself a "ski palace", and it certainly is glamorous. Birch walls and furniture, brightly coloured fabrics, stone bathrooms and a Mac Mini in every room, every tiny detail is stylish. The choice of rooms range from a cosy double to a family suite, all with views of the mountains, out of oversized windows.
Guests have a excellent restaurant choice. From the 2.Mille.3 terrace and its extensive lunch menu, or international cuisine in the evening, or from brasserie dining at Casa Alta serving dishes with a flavour of Italy, to traditional and more unusual fondues at La Laiterie, there's every reason to stay here.
The hotel has its own ski shop, with access via the boot room to the slopes. You can pre-book your skis when you book your room, and take advantage of the made to measure service when you arrive. The boutique here has a very good range of all major brands, should you decide you need a totally new outfit whilst you're there. The Altapura's Spa and wellness facilities are extensive, with an indoor and outdoor pool, steam room, sauna, ice chamber and a good range of treatments.
