Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
Winter is the perfect time to visit Finnish Lapland. The winter temperatures can vary anywhere between 0°C and -40°C. The average temperature in January is -14°C, but the cold is not biting because the air is dry. There can be as much as one metre of snow and it usually lasts until May. There is potential for Northern Lights viewing throughout the winter months.
We design each itinerary around you, so this suggested itinerary is a starting point that we can tweak or transform into something completely bespoke to you. Call us on 020 3993 8025 to start planning your holiday.
Itinerary
Finland is a small country with a varied landscape, a modern design capital and stunning scenery. North of the Arctic Circle you’ll find Finnish Lapland, an area known in many children’s books as a winter wonderland featuring fluffy snow, prancing reindeer and frozen lakes. During a week-long visit you will learn how to drive a husky sled, discover the traditions of the indigenous Sami people and sleep under a glass roof in the hopes of seeing the Northern Lights.

Days 1-2: Helsinki
You’ll arrive into Helsinki, the capital city which is spread around a network of islands. You’ll notice many influences from Russian architecture alongside bold Finnish designs, which showcases the very best in cutting-edge modern design. We’ve included a private, guided city tour for you where you’ll visit the main highlights of Helsinki such as the Lutheran Cathedral, the University, Presidential Palace and City Hall. As well as having a thriving design culture Helsinki is also becoming known for its creative cuisine using local meat such as reindeer, elk and bear to make inventive and tasty dishes.
Accommodation: Klaus K (1 night)

Days 2-5: Finnish Lapland
Spend your days exploring your surroundings and taking part in some typical winter activities such as snowshoeing or cross-country skiing - you can even unleash your inner child and borrow a toboggan as your head to the nearby slope! We’ve included an iconic ride in a sleigh pulled by a reindeer, so you can sit back and listening to the gentle thudding of hoofs and the jingling of bells as you make your way through the snowy wilderness. You may also like to take a sled ride by husky. As well as being able to visit the dogs in their pens, we will organise for you to learn the commands on how to “mush” the group of excitable huskies, or you may choose to simply sit back and enjoy the ride.
Then, as the evening draws in you’ll have chance to warm up in an outdoor hot tub or sauna before cosying up next to a campfire, enjoying a warm drink and listening to fabled stories about the elusive Aurora Borealis as you keep your eyes peeled in hopes of spotting the colourful hue of the Northern Lights above.
Accommodation: Beana Laponia (3 nights)

Days 5-6: Finnish Lapland
After an enjoyable few days, you will continue your journey further north, a drive taking approximately two hours. Away from the artificial lights you’ll end your trip with a seriously special experience as you spend the night under a glass roof at Golden Crown Igloos.
Your premier igloo is perfectly situated along a ridge, so you’ll enjoy sweeping views over the winter landscape without being overlooked. Your motorised bed even allows you to change your position to find the best angle and optimise your chance of spotting the Northern Lights above. With all your activities included, as well as private transfers throughout you’ll receive VIP treatment from start to finish for an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime trip.
