The hottest time is from December to February, when temperatures often reach 30°C and it can be humid with frequent short bursts of rain. This is also the busiest time of year (New Year is one big party).

The hotel is located right on Rua das Pedras, with endless options of restaurants and bars to choose from each evening. The 74 Restaurant below the hotel, facing the bay is the perfect option for families wanting a low-key atmosphere and child-friendly food.

I loved the fact that you are so close to the action in Buzios, yet have complete peace. The views of the bay are absolutely gorgeous, and Casas Brancas is the perfect place for a mixture of chilled-out relaxation by day and partying by night.

A hillside enclave of style and Latin sensibility, this 32-room hacienda-style Pousada overlooks the tranquil waters of Buzios bay. Guests enter a stone-floored lounge with built-in bookcases and local photography amongst oversized furnishings and local antiques. Underneath the lobby is a boutique spa offering massages, European facials and yoga classes. The resort features a sprawling terrace overlooking the sea with sun loungers, restaurant and rectangular lap pool each surprisingly private despite close-proximity. Walking the hotel grounds, a meticulous staff carries out daily rituals like linen-changes and toilet scrubbing while strewing wildflowers freshly-picked from the hotel grounds.

While finicky guests complain about the efficiency of the air-conditioning and limited amenities, others choose to focus on the extraordinary setting and views yet spoilt by mass-tourism. Located walking-distance to the village, a wooden-promenade features restaurants, Privilege nightclub and several high-end shops (and that creepy-Bridgette Bardot statue). The better swimming and surfing beaches are only reachable by car, so be prepared to either rent or request a cab.

Follow in the footsteps of Bridget Bardot - and style-savvy Cariocas - by driving two hours north of Rio to the fishing village of Búzios, the St Tropez of Latin America. Casas Brancas may be one of the oldest pousadas in town but its age belies a timelessly chic and peaceful retreat. The property's interior has a Mediterranean minimalist feel with sheer cotton curtains, old tiled floors and indigenous hangings. A tangle of nooks and crannies leads to 32 sea-facing rooms. Caipirinha in hand, bossa nova playing in the background, its perfect position over the bay makes it the ultimate setting for a sundowner.

  • 1 night & 2 day Sailing Expedition - Angra to Angra

Depart and arrive back into Angra dos Reis, a 2-day sail takes you to deserted coves for sundowners, the jaw-droppingly beautiful beach of Lopez Mendez on Ilha Grande, with the chance to get back to nature snorkelling, surfing, meditating and star gazing!
