Mombo Camp is situated on Mombo Island, adjoining the northern tip of Chief’s Island, within the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta in northern Botswana. The game in this area is incredible - the sheer numbers and variety of wildlife all year round defy description. Mombo Camp is the Africa only seen in documentaries: from elephant to buffalo to tiny steenbok, vast herds of herbivores are trailed by numerous predators on the hunt!
The camp’s nine luxuriously furnished tents are raised high off the ground and adjoined by wooden walkways. This allows game to wander freely through the camp while at the same time enabling guests to maintain a safe distance. One often finds that animals take refuge under the rooms, making for some interesting night-time noises!
Each beautifully designed tented suite has its own entrance, sitting room with a bar, separate bedroom and bathroom areas with a dressing area, indoor and outdoor showers, double vanity and a separate toilet. Each private deck boasts a private plunge pool and swing bed that overlooks the Delta.
Mombo Island is surrounded by open floodplains and the camp itself is largely built in and around the shade of some large Mangosteen, Ebony and Fig trees - overlooking a wonderful floodplain teeming with game. A plunge pool on the main deck makes a great place to relax in the heat of the day.
The highlight here is the concentration of plains game and all the predators with lion sightings being particularly good. Guests could also see leopard, large herds of buffalo, cheetah, wild dog, elephant, white rhino, hyena, giraffe, wildebeest and zebra.
