One of the more luxurious camps in Botswana, Mombo has just nine beautifully appointed tented rooms overlooking a floodplain in the Okavango Delta, surrounded by some of Botswana's best game in a totally pristine area.

Mombo Camp is situated on Mombo Island, adjoining the northern tip of Chief’s Island, within the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta in northern Botswana. The game in this area is incredible - the sheer numbers and variety of wildlife all year round defy description. Mombo Camp is the Africa only seen in documentaries: from elephant to buffalo to tiny steenbok, vast herds of herbivores are trailed by numerous predators on the hunt!

The camp’s nine luxuriously furnished tents are raised high off the ground and adjoined by wooden walkways. This allows game to wander freely through the camp while at the same time enabling guests to maintain a safe distance. One often finds that animals take refuge under the rooms, making for some interesting night-time noises!

Each beautifully designed tented suite has its own entrance, sitting room with a bar, separate bedroom and bathroom areas with a dressing area, indoor and outdoor showers, double vanity and a separate toilet. Each private deck boasts a private plunge pool and swing bed that overlooks the Delta.

Mombo Island is surrounded by open floodplains and the camp itself is largely built in and around the shade of some large Mangosteen, Ebony and Fig trees - overlooking a wonderful floodplain teeming with game. A plunge pool on the main deck makes a great place to relax in the heat of the day.

The highlight here is the concentration of plains game and all the predators with lion sightings being particularly good. Guests could also see leopard, large herds of buffalo, cheetah, wild dog, elephant, white rhino, hyena, giraffe, wildebeest and zebra.

Mombo Camp comprises nine spacious tents raised two meters from the ground. Each tented suite has its own entrance, sitting room with a bar, separate bedroom and bathroom areas with a dressing area, indoor and outdoor showers, double vanity and a separate toilet.
Each private deck has a  private plunge pool and a swing bed that overlooks the Delta.

Magnificent vistas are the order of the day, with all the rooms, the sala, long veranda and lounge area all taking advantage of the very best that the Okavango Delta has to offer. The tents are positioned under the canopies of the vegetation to provide shade and to keep them cool.

The camp is not suited to very small children and for this reason there is a minimum age of 8 years. Children older than this are very welcome and food and meal times can be tailored to suit the younger guest.

Mombo Camp's main living and dining areas are under thatch, but a boma makes for a delicious dinner under the stars. As well as your private plunge pool, the main area boasts a lap pool as well as a curio shop and a hide to quietly observe the wildlife. If you are in need of a bit of pampering, massages can be arranged upon request.

Activities at Mombo Camp include morning and afternoon game drives. Open 4x4s provide an exquisite vantage for viewing the high concentrations of plains game and all the predators - including the big cats.

Mombo has a well-deserved reputation as one of Botswana’s premier safari camps. The rooms are certainly hard to beat and they really have thought of everything - I thought my soft mohair blanket (in addition to a big squashy duvet) was the height of luxury on a chilly night. The game viewing really is superb (we had the most amazing leopard sighting…up a tree, doing all the poses!) and is matched by the excellent guiding. Friendly staff and good food complete a great package.

Mombo Camp is built under large shady trees and overlooks an open floodplain with plenty of wildlife. This area boasts enormous concentrations of plains game and large predators - lions in particular - providing some of the best big game viewing in Botswana. Nine spacious tents are raised to two metres off the ground, with breathtaking views over the plains. Bathrooms are en-suite, with indoor and outdoor showers. The main living and dining area is under thatch and there is a boma for delicious dinners under the stars, plus a plunge pool to relax in on a hot day.
