Botswana’s winter is May to October when the weather is hot during the day (not stiflingly hot) and cold at night. Botswana's summer months (November to April) can be hot and humid and there is a chance of rain. Botswana has one rainy season which runs between mid-December and runs through to mid-March.
To start planning your holiday to Jacana Camp
This beautiful camp consists of five tents and its remote setting offers fantastic views of the flood plain as well as being a great base for activities - the camp floods almost entirely during the rainy season, giving perfect opportunities for boating.
Jacana Camp, is situated in the private Jao Concession on the Moremi Game Reserve boundary in the heart of the Okavango Delta, Botswana. It truly is a water-oriented camp and offers mokoro and walking safaris all year round. Game drives are also on offer year round but night drives are ony possible from around September to May as water levels restrict this activity when the delta is in flood.
The camp is set in one of the most densely populated wetland areas for sitatunga and red lechwe. Wildlife concentrations depend on water flow and volume and thus change from season to season but all the big animals can be found in the area including elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo. Pel’s fishing owl is a favourite amongst birders as well as greater and lesser Jacanas.
Jacana Camp has 5 meru-style tents. Each tent is on a wooden deck overlooking the floodplains and has an en-suite bathroom with flush toilet and shower. The bathroom is enclosed but roofless allowing for showers by starlight. The camp has a plunge pool for cooling off from the midday sun.
The main dining area is on an elevated wooden deck between two magnificent sycamore fig trees and surrounded by dense wild date palms. Downstairs, there is a cosy bar and lounge with an area for an open fire under the stars. It is unique in that is only one of two camps in the Okavango Delta to be on two levels.
Jacana Camp consists of five Meru-style tents built on raised wooden decks to facilitate its panoramic views of the Okavango Delta. Each tent has an enclosed en-suite bathroom featuring a roofless shower which is lit by dappled sunlight and shade or by the stars themselves at night.
Jacana Camp is not suited to very small children and there is a minimum age of 8 years. However, food and meal times can be adjusted to suit younger guests and many children find safari a fascinating and informative experience.
Jacana Camp offers mokoro, boating and walking safaris all year round. Game drives are also on offer year round but night drives are only possible from around September to May as water levels restrict this activity when the delta is in flood. The camp also has a plunge pool to help you cool off in between safaris.

Jacana Camp is a small more low key camp owned and managed by Wilderness Safaris I really liked its remote island location in the middle of the Delta. It has year round water so it is always possible to go out in the mokoros. It is the perfect camp for people wanting to experience the remoteness of the Delta and who appreciate the smaller things, such as the painted reed frog, as well as being a fantastic place to spot the Pel's Fishing-Owl as well as African and Lesser Jacanas.
