Salzburg Holidays
Salzburg is one of Austria’s most beautiful cities, overlooked by the imposing Hohensalzburg fortress which towers over the city. In the city’s picturesque old town you can visit the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and enjoy stunning Baroque architecture. Salzburg was also the setting for the hugely successful musical ‘The Sound of Music’.

There’s a huge amount to see and do in Salzburg, which enjoys the status of UNESCO heritage site. The most popular sites include the Hohensalzburg fortress, which offers fantastic views of the city and is reached by funicular railway from the old town, and the nearby Cathedral, where Mozart was baptized. Don’t miss Getreidegasse, Salzburg’s most attractive and most visited shopping street, where you can also visit Mozart's birthplace.
We cannot of course forget other sights like the Mirabell Palace, the Hellbrunn Palace and other sites made famous by the Von Trapp family – we can even arrange a ‘Sound of Music’ themed tour if desired!
The high point in Salzburg’s culture is the acclaimed Salzburger Festspiele, which includes concerts, opera and theatre performances which take place in some of the city’s most beautiful buildings.
In November and December, Salzburg becomes one of the most romantic spots to enjoy some pre-Christmas cheer. The city’s main Christmas Market, which takes place in Cathedral Square, has been taking place since the 15th century. An extensive programme of musical events also take place at this time of year, as well as smaller Christmas markets in other charming locations around the city.
