Itinerary

This fast-paced itinerary provides the perfect introduction to Myanmar with eight nights in this fascinating country. Moving every two or three nights, you’ll be able to experience all the highlights from the colonial old town of Yangon to the thousands of temples that dot Bagan and the fascinating leg rowers of Inle Lake.

  1. Days 1-3: Yangon

Starting in Yangon you’ll have two nights in the city and with your private guide you’ll experience all the main cultural sites and a journey around Yangon’s heritage buildings with the High Court and along the Strand Road where most are located. Yangon also has some brilliant social enterprises and in this itinerary we have included a few stops at a select group of them for you. These amazing operations support the local community through restaurants, arts and crafts and jewelry outlets and you’ll be able to get a great insight into local life in Myanmar through your time here.

Accommodation: Sule Shangri-La, Yangon (2 nights)

  2. Days 3-5: Bagan

From Yangon, it is then on to Bagan which you’ll reach with a direct flight from Yangon. Directly from the airport your guide will whisk you off to explore the incredible history and culture of Bagan. There are over 2,000 temples in Bagan and your guide will help bring the history of this incredible region to life as you discover the reason and motives behind the building of the temples over the centuries and their meanings. Over the two nights you have here, visits will also be made to local villages in the surrounding countryside and out to Salay which is one of the most significant Buddhist centers in Myanmar. We have also included a visit to Mount Popa during your time in Bagan. An extinct volcano, Mt Popa not only offers incredible views over the surrounding area but it is also believe to be home to 37 spirits who serve as the guardians for the people in Myanmar, making it another very special and sacred site in the country.

    Accommodation: Areindmar Hotel (2 nights)

  3. Days 5-8: Inle Lake

After two nights in Bagan you’ll head to Inle Lake, reachable by a direct flight from Bagan to Heho. From Heho you’ll meet your guide and driver who will transfer you to the Lake’s edge to the bustling town of Nyaung Shwe where you will be spending your next three nights. On arrival, if early enough you may be able to catch the morning market where locals congregate each day and from here spend the rest of the day exploring this little lakeside town.  The following day, we have included a full day tour of Inle Lake, which you will explore by longtail boat. As you explore the lake you’ll pass through villages with stilted houses, floating gardens and the iconic fisherman who use a unique leg rowing technique. Throughout the day you’ll have the chance to stop in at local industries such as weaving and lakeside pagodas and sanctuaries. As this is quite a fast paced itinerary we have included an extra night in Inle Lake so that you can relax and enjoy the lake at your own pace, however if you would like a guide included for your whole time we can of course provide this for you.

    Accommodation: ViewPoint Lodge (3 nights)

  4. Days 8-9: Yangon

For your last stop, you’ll fly back to Yangon where you will have one final night. Shwedagon Pagoda is best viewed in the early evening, as the sun reflects off this amazing gold structure and locals come to pray and pay their respects. Your guide will be on hand to lead you around the complex explaining the history and significance as you go. Depending on your international flight the following day, if you would like us to include some guiding here as well we will be happy to do so. Yangon has so many incredible sites to see and enjoy there is always plenty to explore!

Accommodation: Savoy Hotel Yangon (1 night)
