Situated just south of the equator, the Seychelles have a warm tropical climate. The consistently warm tropical weather makes the Seychelles a good year round destination.
There is little fluctuation in warmth, with temperatures ranging from 24C to 31C all year round. From May to October a southeast trade wind can bring marginally cooler weather and fresh breezes. From November to March the northwest monsoon wind blows, typically raising temperature and humidity. December and January are the wettest months, but the rain falls in short sharp bursts before the sun comes out again.
One of the world's most beautiful islands, Fregate is a private island, just four degrees south of the equator and surrounded by seven dream beaches. The ultimate luxury eco-lodge and a Seychelles jewel, guests here enjoy total seclusion.
Fregate is a uniquely peaceful setting of verdant, tropical interiors and abundant nature fringed by seven dream beaches, each a brilliant sweep of powdery white sand dotted with giant, iconic granite boulders. The preservation, protection and nurture of its unique flora and fauna has always been - and continues to be - a fundamental raison d'être for Fregate Island Private. With only 16 villas and one Presidential Villa, guests are invited to experience the rare luxuries of space, security and seclusion within a tropical island setting of exuberant natural beauty.
The island is a stunningly peaceful setting of tropical landscape and abundant nature. All the villas have an exceptional level of comfort and privacy, and the service is impeccable - nothing is too much trouble. Each villa has a living room, large bedroom and two bathrooms, with showers inside and out. The large private sundecks are furnished with king-size sun beds, carved pool armchairs and a table for dining al fresco. A wooden staircase leads down to a private Jacuzzi with unforgettable views of the Indian Ocean.
Fregate’s beaches are among the most beautiful in the world for swimming, snorkeling, diving, sailing and fishing. The island can be explored along the coast or through the jungle, and a fresh water pool is centrally located between the villas and integrated into a natural rock basin. Other facilities include the Rock Spa perched on a cliff-top plateau overlooking the sea and two restaurants which serve fresh produce grown on the island. Take advantage of a bespoke dining experience - anything, anytime, anywhere, from dinner in the Tree House to a private beach barbecue.
Weaving through the tropical jungle interior and along the sweeping island coastline there are numerous sun-dappled walking paths and nature trails. Guests can explore the abundant beauty of Fregate Island Private either at their own pace or accompanied by one of the ecologists, and interact with its spectacular living athenaeum of flora and fauna: a modern day Noah’s Ark. Savor a spellbinding panorama of paradise upon Mont Signal, an imposing 125-meter granite peak… Behold the sight of the island’s most famous inhabitant, the Seychelles-Shama Thrush, commonly called the Magpie Robin… Listen to the glorious musical improvisations of the Seychelles Blue Pigeon. Safari through lush forests of extraordinary Coco der Mer palms and giant Banyan trees. Encounter magnificent Aldabra giant tortoises, roaming the dense undergrowth and swampy terrain; the unique tenebrionid beetle, only found on Fregate’s soil; and the Seychelles terrapin.
Fregate Island Private has just 16 villas and one Presidential Villa, accommodating only a selected number of guests at any one time and thereby ensuring the island remains exclusively the realm of its guests. Each villa is built of native mahogany, blending into its natural surroundings and positioned to ensure total privacy and maximize the views of the ocean. Each villa has a large terrace and private infinity pool, day bed and Jacuzzi. And for the ultimate in luxury and pampering, each villa comes with a personal butler and an island buggy.

I loved Fregate Island. After just one night, I left the island with my shoulders more relaxed, and a smile on my face. I love how they try to balance their responsibility to nature and the environment, with superb luxurious accommodation, and the chance to drive myself around the island on my own golf buggy was such fun! The most special moment, was watching the sun go down from Grand Anse, whilst patiently waiting for a Hawksbill Turtle to nest and start laying her eggs!
Alone. All alone. Just the two of you. Actually, three of you; there's Sumith too - the butler who has just unpacked your cases. And is bringing bacon and eggs to your villa. Because you can have barbecued catch of the day, you can have rum punch, you can have whatever the hell you want. And you want bacon and eggs. But back to being alone - because, thankfully, Sumith will only come when you call him, and you'll never, ever see another guest. Just 2,000 giant tortoises (the biggest population outside the Galapagos), and fruit bats the size of badgers, and more than a hundred species of tropical birds, and giant millipedes (surprisingly crunchy underfoot), and Fregate beetles, which are famous and have their own enclosure at London Zoo. Fregate, now under the watchful eye of hotel supremos the Oetker Collection, is properly wild and intensely private. Just draw the gate across your path and run stark naked. There's nothing quite like being where the wild things are.
On Frgate, nature and fine-tuned artifice coexist. Eat lunch on the terrace of your teak villa, with its private infinity pool, louvred doors and artfully scattered frangipani flowers, and a row of tiny, berry-bright birds sit along your veranda rail, hoping to steal your bread. And if you venture out into the wilderness, one moment you're sidestepping a giant tortoise and the next you're on a platform 100 meters up a tree, eating breakfast (cooked on a barbecue and winched up) from a table spread with damask as white as the fairy terns wheeling below. Frgate Island Private is at once a grand hotel and a conservation project. It has white-sand beaches strewn with purple cowrie shells the size of kiwi fruit, its own airstrip, solar-powered buggies for bumbling around the blossoming woodlands and a restaurant where the produce of the immense vegetable garden is transmuted into luscious oddities such as ylang-ylang scented hollandaise. This is Never Never Land with great service and a clear conscience: the hotel's takings fund the regeneration of the island's ecosystem.

I was very lucky to spend 3 nights at Fregate Island and until you have actually stayed there, it is hard to understand the uniqueness of place. The island is totally unique with it's natural beauty and Garden of Eden feel. Great efforts have gone into preserving the natural environment and enabling man to live alongside nature with minimal impact. Fregate Island certainly is an original luxury eco-retreat offering very high standards of service, beautifully appointed accommodation and original dining experiences. Guests can pretty much choose any location to dine around the island - suggested options are; breakfast in the tree house, high tea on the highest point of the island with fabulous ocean views or dining in the Plantation House, the Yacht Club or the old Boat House. If you like bird-life and wildlife then this island is an ideal choice as you are surrounded by nature. I went for a dive at Coral Gardens dive site, just nearby to Anse Victorin (voted one of the best beaches in the world by Conde Naste) and I was very excited to spot a Guitar Shark (otherwise known as a Shovel Nose Ray). Like Anna, I also had one of the best massages I have ever experienced. Ask for Widi, one of the Balinese therapists - she has magical hands...

Fregate Island really is a paradise island. I adored my stay there, it's the perfect spot to either totally relax or explore. Privacy is a big thing here and each villa isn't overlooked and has lots of space and a private infinity pool. They are luxuriously appointed, you will feel very pampered. You also have your own golf buggy and are encouraged to explore the island.
There's lots of wildlife and if birds are your passion you won't be disappointed. However, if you don't like birds, be aware that there are a lot of them around and they are everywhere. There are also plenty of giant tortoises roaming wild as well as giant millipedes which aren't particularly pretty to look at but are harmless.
I would particularly recommend the High Tea which is set out for you at the highest point of the island with amazing views. My favorite experience though was the Tree House breakfast, an incredible way to start the day.
Finally, try the spa, the staff are incredibly talented and the massage I had there was one of the best I've ever experienced.
All in all, Fregate is not a cheap option, however, it is a unique island experience that you will never forget. Perfect for couples or for families who want time together in a very special environment.
