Nikko, Central Honshu Mountains, Japan
Discover the scenic treasures of Nikko! Enjoy Kinugawa river boat ride, pass through Suginami cedar avenue, visit the Nikko Toshogu Shrine, Kanmangafuchi Abyss, Ryuzu Falls and Senjoga Hara Marshland.
Our journey begins with a boat ride along the Kunugawa Valley, the amazing ravine with its emerald-colored streams. Afterwards, drive into Nikko via Cedar Avenue, a street in Nikko lined with thousands of cedar trees to welcome guests into Nikko. Tucked in the beautiful forest lies Nikko Toshogu Shrine, a lavishly decored shrine consisting of a dozen buildings and the mausoleum of Tokugawa Ieyasu, founder of Tokugawa Shogunate and ruler of Japan for over 250 years.
Formed by the eruption of Mount Nantai, a gorgeous gorge forms in Kanmangafuchi Abyss. It is also famed for the rows of Jizo statues, a beloved Japan deity who takes care of travelers and children. Not any less impressive is the Ryuzu Falls beautifully located upstream from the Yugawa River, with its name literally translating to "Dragon's Head".
Transfer to Senjoga-hara Marshland, which covers the plateau between Lake Chuzenji and Yumoto Onsen. At 1,400m above sea level, the area offers great hiking opportunities with stunning views, particularly during the autumn season where the surrounds turn into hues of gold and red, shimmering in the sunlight.
