Straddling the equator, Indonesia tends to have a fairly even climate year-round. Rather than four seasons, Indonesia has two – wet and dry – and there are no extremes of temperature between winter and summer. Given the different climates throughout the archipelago, the vessel is able to operate different expeditions at different times of year. Between December and March, the Alila Purnama operates expeditions to explore the magical waters of Raja Ampat, and from April to November, the expedition changes course for the mythical island of Komodo.

Kudanil brings elegance and comfort to a vessel built for exploration, creating a floating boutique property that transports passengers to remote parts of Indonesia. One of the safest vessels in the area, it can travel to places off-limits to others.
Originally built as an exploration vessel, Kudanil has been thoughtfully and tastefully transformed to offer adventurous travels in a high degree of comfort. With 1000sq.m of space and 21 crew members, passengers have the convenience and freedom of a boat with the comfort and service of an upmarket hotel. With a spa, jacuzzi, library, lounge and both indoor and outdoor restaurants, the Kudanil’s amenities offer a wealth of diversion when not exploring the jungles, beaches and reefs of the archipelago.
The eight berths of the vessel are tastefully designed, with crisp white bed linens and Indonesian crafts that add color and a taste of the cultural heritage of the islands. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors flood the 30sq.m cabins with light and open onto a private terrace with a daybed, two chairs and a table. With a king size bed or twin beds, and an extra bed available on request, the cabins can easily accommodate couples, friends or families. Air-conditioning, WIFI and televisions in each cabin create a comfortable home-from-home as you sail to far-off lands. On the main deck, an informal restaurant, bar and lounge offer space to unwind and sample the delicious flavors of the region, while the al fresco dining area on the top deck is joined by sun loungers and a sky saloon for relaxing on balmy Indonesian days. A spa and changing area offers further potential for complete relaxation, alongside an on-deck jacuzzi.
Following the monsoon from East to West to avoid the rains, the Kudanil charts a path through the beautifully timeless landscapes of Komodo, Raja Ampat and the Spice Islands. Search out empty surf breaks, pristine reefs that teem with marine life, travel to little-visited communities and explore landscapes of extraordinary natural abundance.
Combining the simple minimalism of a elegant hotel room with the traditional flourishes of Indonesia’s artisan heritage and the spectacular and ever-changing views of the passing lands and seas, the cabins are a supremely comfortable retreat after a day of diving, surfing and cultural exploration. Each of the eight cabins is equally sized, and all enjoy ensuite facilities and a terrace from which to soak in the fresh sea air with a morning coffee.
With the facilities you might expect from a boutique hotel, Kudanil is well-appointed for both relaxation and exploration. A spa, multiple lounges, sun decks and dining areas create convivial, social spaces, though there’s the privacy of the cabins with their terrace should you wish to retreat. Alongside such thoughtful renovations and design elements, Kudanil boasts a reputation as one of the safest seafaring vessels in the region, thanks to its past role as a Safety Standby Vessel. For further exploration and adventure, the boat carries three Tenders, two paddleboards, dive equipment, six transparent kayaks, waterskis and a wakeboard.
While specific activities and experiences will vary according to the region and schedule, an adventure aboard Kudanil is likely to include culture, wildlife, the marine world and watersports. Traveling through the Raja Ampat islands you’ll uncover exceptional biodiversity, thundering waterfalls, emerald rainforests, mangroves and towering limestone karsts. Visit local villages in Komodo, where ancient cultures remain and traditional ways of life cling on. Explore the nutmeg and cinnamon plantations of the Spice Islands, a fertile habitat for an abundance of birdlife and rich coral reefs. Paddle out on a kayak across an empty sea, step out onto deserted beaches and explore the hidden corners of this exquisite archipelago.
