Vintage Bike Tour in Shanghai
Shanghai, Shanghai and Eastern China, China
Leave behind the towering skyscrapers of Shanghai as you cycle through its ancient lanes to discover daily life and local culture in tucked away neighborhoods. Dive into a bustling market, sample the local street food and dine at a Buddhist canteen.
Over the course of a morning this tour will introduce you to the other side of Shanghai, away from the glittering skyline and fast-paced city life. Step off the usual well-trodden path and take public transport to Xintiandi district where you’ll have a bike fitting and safety briefing at a local cafe before heading out into the shady lanes of the French Concession to discover how international influences have shaped the city.
Cycling on to Fuxing Park you may spot groups of people engrossed in activities such as Tai Chi and Qigong. Throughout the city, people take to the parks for exercise or to escape the stresses of city life. You may also have the chance to try the Chinese tradition of water calligraphy art. For an energy boost, head to a street of food stalls where your guide will talk you through the intricacies of China’s culinary etiquette before diving into a local wet market, with its cacophony of noise and color. As you cycle through the ‘lilongs’ you’ll get a privileged view of the local lives and daily habits of the residents before arriving at a Taoist temple, tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. Here you’ll learn about the practises and beliefs of the monks before continuing onto a Buddhist canteen for a vegetarian lunch.
Please note that this tour is suitable for children 12 years and above.
