To start planning your holiday to Charco Hotel
Description
A charming boutique hotel with eight rooms in the heart of Uruguay's UNESCO World Heritage site, Colonia del Sacramento. Charco Hotel is made up of lovingly converted original 1680 Portuguese houses which form the rooms, suites and restaurant.
Charco Hotel has a superb position overlooking the river in Colonia del Sacramento, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Located just a ten minute stroll from the port where you arrive on the ferry from Buenos Aires, it has an ideal position for exploring this charming, historic town.
The hotel comprises several original Portuguese houses dating back to 1680, with stone walls and terracotta tiled roofs. The integrity of the houses have been carefully maintained and the interiors lovingly and tastefully restored into seven rooms and a family house, as well as a charming bistro restaurant. Combining original interior stone walls with bright white furnishings, oatmeal coloured armchairs, the rooms have a cosy and relaxed feel.
There are pretty gardens leading down to the river and some rooms overlook the river whilst others overlook the characterful cobbled streets. The Bistro restaurant serves locally sourced dishes, from salads and antipasti to seafood courses and pizzas. There is a bright, airy restaurant and a sunny outdoor terrace to choose from.
Charco's rooms are each individual in their style, with two senior rooms, three suites, a spacious balcony room and a small room ideal for children. There is also El Rancho, a two-bedroom house with a spacious lounge, kitchen and family bathroom, with space to accommodate an extra bed.
Accommodation
Each of the original Portuguese houses accommodates two bedrooms, and El Rancho is a self-contained family house with two bedrooms, large living room, kitchen and shared bathroom. All have been sensitively designed in line with UNESCO World Heritage rules, ensuring you enjoy the charm and history of these original fisherman's houses dating back to the 17th Century. The senior rooms overlook the quiet cobbled streets, whilst the balcony room has a large balcony with river views. The suites are more spacious with sitting areas, and there is a small room with twin beds ideal for children (but a little small otherwise).
All rooms have wifi internet, TV, iPod dock and safe.
Childcare
Children are welcome at Charco Hotel. There are no interconnecting rooms as UNESCO rules prevent the structure of the buildings being changed. However, there is one room with twin beds which is in the same house as a double room, making it an ideal option for families, or El Rancho house which is a family unit with two bedrooms and a shared bathroom.
