Average time to visit
It is very difficult to predict the weather in the United Kingdom - in the summer from May to late September is generally seen as the most pleasant time to visit. Rainfall is difficult to predict - but the UK does not receive as much as many are led to believe! In the winters, temperatures do fall, but there is nothing better than finding a remote pub with a roaring fire to sit beside after a long walk in the country.
To start planning your holiday to The Varsity Hotel & Spa
With a riverside location and boasting fabulous views from the rooftop terrace across the glorious city of Cambridge, the boutique Varsity Hotel & Spa offers classy but understated accommodation and is ideally-placed for sight-seeing and punting.
This fashionable hotel enjoys a prime location on the River Cam, making it easy to slide into a punt to explore Cambridge’s historic colleges from the water. What’s more, there is a 6th floor Brasserie and Roof Terrace offering incredible views of the towers, turrets and gargoyles of the city’s most famous buildings. The Varsity has just 44 boutique rooms, all generously-sized and decorated with academic artefacts and quirky artwork to celebrate the cultural heritage of the city. Next door in a converted 18th century brewery warehouse, guests will find the River Bar Steakhouse & Grill, Elemis Spa and well-equipped gym. There is a warm and friendly home-from-home ambience and the hotel provides complimentary bicycles, so guests can explore in local style.
The décor is stylishly understated and contemporary with light oak floors, feature wallpaper and walk-in Monsoon showers. Standard amenities include Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, LCD TV with DVD player and the en-suite bathrooms are stocked with Elemis toiletries. Larger rooms include super king-size beds, free-standing bathtubs and wooden-decked balconies, while the Senior Fellows Suite has a separate lounge and Apple Mac computer.
Guests can choose from two dining options. SIX Brasserie is located on the top floor of the building beneath the roof terrace. Diners enjoy fabulous views and all-day casual dining, while the roof terrace is a wonderful place to relax on a sofa and watch the sun go down. A barbeque menu is available on the terrace during summer weekends. Alternatively, guests can head to the River Bar Steakhouse & Grill overlooking the River Cam. The Glassworks Elemis Spa offers accomplished beauty treatments and massage, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. There is also a well-equipped gym with daily fitness classes. The hotel’s riverside location and wonderful views make this a great base for exploring the many attractions of Cambridge.
