Average time to visit
It is very difficult to predict the weather in the United Kingdom - in the summer from May to late September is generally seen as the most pleasant time to visit. Rainfall is difficult to predict - but the UK does not receive as much as many are led to believe! In the winters, temperatures do fall, but there is nothing better than finding a roaring fire to sit beside after a long walk in the hills. Alladale is closed from mid January to mid March.

Alladale Wilderness Reserve is located in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, surrounded by rugged hills and stunning scenery. Sleeping up to 12, this luxury lodge makes for the perfect retreat for those looking to get back to nature.
Nestled in the Scottish Highlands, just north of Inverness, Alladale Wilderness Reserve is a 23,000 acre expanse of glens, rivers and hill lochs. With a wealth of wildlife and a team of dedicated rangers, Alladale has a focus on conservation and an aim to restore the local ecosystem to its former glory, bursting with flora and fauna.
In the heart of the reserve sits Alladale Lodge, the main building of the reserve which sleeps 12 guests comfortably. Built in 1887, Alladale reflects the traditional stalking lodge style whilst remaining tasteful and contemporary. The six double bedrooms are warm and welcoming, and the majority offer fantastic views of the surrounding hills. Perfect for family gatherings, there is ample living space, from the cosy drawing room and dining room to the billiard room, which invites plenty of friendly competition!
One mile further into the reserve sit two cottages, Ghillie's Rest and Eagle's Crag. These sleep four and eight respectively, and are perfect for those looking to get completely off the beaten track and get away from it all. With a contemporary take on tradition, both cottages are cosy and inviting thanks to wood-burning stoves and plush furnishings with tartan touches. Great for smaller family gatherings, you can do as much or as little as you'd like here, from exploring the wider reserve to simply spending quality time together away from technology and modern distractions.
For nature lovers, Alladale is the ultimate retreat. Get to know the reserve with a 4x4 tour or a ranger-guided walk and perhaps meet some of the local residents! Deer are in abundance here, red squirrels have been re-introduced nearby, and there is a huge herd of Highland cattle. Alternatively, head to one of Alladale's ten hill lochs to try your hand at brown trout fishing, or even try out clay pigeon shooting. With such a wealth of activities available it's possible to spend your whole time at Alladale out exploring the reserve, but don't forget to take a minute to stop and admire the incredible views - there's nothing else quite like it!
Alladale Wilderness Reserve is home to Alladale Lodge, as well as two cottages situated around one mile from the main building. The lodge and each of the cottages provides Alladale's very own bathroom amenities in partnership with Natura Siberica, using home-grown organic Scottish thistle extract.
The main lodge at Alladale is a fully catered property available for exclusive use. Sleeping 14 guests in seven en-suite double bedrooms, it offers the perfect getaway for family or friends. The large lounge is extremely welcoming and comfortable, feeling like a true home-away-from-home. Extra touches ensure an enjoyable stay, from the gym and sauna to the traditional billiard room.
Located around a mile from the main lodge in Glen Alladale, Ghillie's Rest is a comfortable cottage sleeping up to four guests in one double and one twin room. A galley kitchen is ideal for self-catering, however catered options are also available.

Wonderfully comfortable, with a large kitchen and well-appointed dining room and lounge, you will find it hard to leave! Views of the glen are simply superb, and Eagle's Crag is the perfect place from which to admire them.

Alladale Wilderness Reserve is a remote Victorian manor house in the Scottish Highlands that has 8 bedrooms and land as far as the eye can see. The remote location makes this hotel a destination in itself and it offers guests the real wild Scotland they might be looking for. The house is grand and beautifully appointed but it is also warm and welcoming so that you will feel as if you are in your own home while staying there. The activities on site include hill walking, fishing, cycling, clay pigeon shooting and wildlife watching. Your stay at Alladale will include all of your meals and the food is thoughtfully prepared using locally-sourced game, meat, fish and produce. This is a hotel for those that are looking for a stunning location, a luxurious and private home experience and plenty of things to do on site.
