An intimate and romantic boutique hotel, Giardino Mountain combines traditional Alpine style with designer interiors. Located in the village of Champfèr, right next to St. Moritz, guests have access to four of some of Switzerland's finest ski areas.

The Giardino Mountain is a jewel of a hotel in the little village of Champfèr, in the spectacular Upper Engadine region. Voted Europe’s most beautiful mountain hotel in 2015, it is refined, sophisticated and indulgent whilst maintaining an Alpine charm. On the outside the architecture is typical Swiss mountain village, whilst the inside oozes modern lifestyle and has a warm, relaxed atmosphere. Guests are made to feel instantly at home by the attentive and extremely helpful staff, who are on hand the minute you walk though the door, and happy to make any recommendations from skiing to dining.

You probably won’t want to dine out in the evening however, as the hotel has five exceptional choices. The Stuva serves local, hearty Engadine cuisine, whilst Ecco has an impressive two Michelin stars and a long list of other culinary awards. The Hide & Seek restaurant offers a menu inspired by both contemporary and Ayurvedic sources.

It also might feel hard to head out skiing in the morning. The rooms and suites are spacious with mountain views over snowy rooftops, and are beautifully styled with pictures of old St Moritz contrasting against the designer furniture. Cosy fireplaces in the lounge, exceptionally comfortable sofas, and candle lit spaces are all very romantic. Guests should try the Spa with its pool, sauna and beautiful relaxation areas. Signature dipiù and Aveda products complement the extensive list of treatments. The hotel also offers 'Ayurveda by Giardino', a therapeutic and non-medical health programme for holistic well-being.

Skiing in St Moritz can not be overstated. The four large and diverse ski areas of Corviglia/Piz Nair, Corvatsch, Lagalb and Zuoz promise slopes and terrain for all levels of skier, together with an excellent snow record due to the height, and a fast, modern lift infrastructure. Indeed, the Ski World Championships were held here in 2017.

The 78 cosy rooms and suites are all splendidly and individually decorated with elegant designer furnishings and we love the attention to detail on all the design features. All rooms include two complimentary bottles of water, access to the spa, welcome drink, daily newspaper, Wifi, 24 hour room service and dipiu cosmetics amenities.

The facilities for children of all ages at this hotel are fantastic and some of the best we've seen in the Alps. The Mountain Kidsclub is open from midday to 10pm each day for children from 3 years old and has its own restaurant so kids can all eat together. And Teens have their very own Freestyle Academy which has been specially created for teenagers needing their own space, which comes complete with pinball, Playstations and billiards.

There are three on-site restaurants to choose from and guests can dine around in each. The Stuva serves traditionally Swiss food and the Hide & Seek is the a la carte restaurant which is great for families and serves breakfast each day. Finally, two Michelin-starred Ecco St Moritz serves modern cuisine with a tasting menu and wine flight all part of the incredible gourmet experience.

Jenny James (Staff)

Giardino Mountain is a chalet style retreat in the pretty village of Champfer, just outside St Moritz town. The concept of the hotel is a relaxed home away from home, something slightly less formal to the glitz and glam of St Moritz town. You experience the best of both, being a short shuttle from the ski lifts and the town, yet in the quieter charming in Champfer.

The staff were wonderful, including the comfortable efficient driver service. The restaurants offer delicious mountain food with lighter and healthy choices too, a welcome break from the often heavier Swiss food. Accommodation is split across different buildings all linked together. Bedrooms are cosy chalet style, some with particularly pretty mountain views (higher categories).  Giardino Mountain also have their own 'Power Guide' who offers guided daily winter activities such as snow shoeing, snow yoga and cross country skiing. These are a wonderful and different way to experience the local area whilst taking in the stunning views and lakes. These are all offered on a complimentary basis which guests can sign up to. Private tours and activities can also be booked at an additional cost.

  • Preda Bergün Toboggan Run

The Bergün toboggan run is one of the most popular toboggan runs in Europe, several kilometers long it winds through the beautiful valley, an unforgettable experience possible in the daytime or evening.

  • White Turf

White Turf is an exciting, exclusive and traditional event that takes place annually, in the middle of the frozen lake of St Moritz on the first three Sundays in February.
