Average time to visit

The Mediterranean climate makes Tuscany a year round destination. It is important to remember that the main tourism season stretches from mid-April to the end of September with July and August being peak months. The best time to visit Tuscany is in the quieter part of the season, from April to June and from September to October when weather is usually good, prices lower and there are "fewer" tourists. Many have also discovered the advantages of visiting during the "low season" (late autumn and early spring) as rates are lower and the reduced number of tourists is visible.

Florence

Day 2-4

Tuscany

All rested and raring to go take the spectacular Tuscan road towards the sublime Belmond Castello di Casole where you will stay for the next two nights. En route you will drive the beautiful tarmac of a strada statali road that traverses Chianti, stopping for a relaxed lunch before arriving in the afternoon.  Belmond Castello di Casole is situated within 30 acres of olive groves, the estate produces some of the finest olive oil in Italy, offering peaceful seclusion, yet is perfectly situated for exploring surrounding historical towns.  The boutique hotel offers magical views of the Tuscan countryside, combining Old World Tuscan charm with modern boutique luxury, elegance and sophistication.  The private estate comprises a mixture of beautiful suites, elegant stone townhouses and restored Farmhouse Villas each with dramatic glass tiled infinity pools. Enjoy scrumptious local Italian cuisine on the terrace at Ristorante Tosca, overlooking the rolling hills of Tuscany, interlaced with Cypress trees and charming private farmhouses.

Your second drive day will be a half day morning loop around the picturesque countryside of San Gimignano. Return to the hotel for lunch, after which you will trade car keys for a wine glass and indulge in an afternoon of private tasting at a renowned vineyard near Castello di Casole sampling the wines for which are famed for the region.

Set of for the next leg of your adventure, take a meandering cruise from Casole d'Elsa to Palazzetto. You'll spend the day tracing the vine-covered hillsides of Montalcino, before arriving into the magnificent boutique property, Borgo Santo Pietro, at which you will enjoy a further two evenings. A lovingly converted 13th century villa, exuding charm and history, offering you a luxurious haven in which to relax and unwind. Surrounded by 13 acres of gardens this hotel really offers seclusion and relaxation, on warm summer days cool off in the large infinity pools which overlook the surrounding countryside.
