Average time to visit
Isolated from much of India by the Western Ghats, the climate of Kerala & Karnataka is tropical and as a result of the mountain ranges the area isn’t as dry as much of India. The best time to visit is from January through to April. While there can be the occasional light showers these are just a prelude of the wet weather to come. The weather is generally hot and humid during this early summer. The monsoon season arrives in early June and thus can wash out July and August. September is much more humid as a result of the rainy season, and the fall can be dry but with the humidity this makes it feel quite warm. There can be a little rain in the night in October and November. The temperatures cool down and the humidity lets up as winter comes in around December, with this season lasting until February when the dry spring returns. Winter can be a pleasant time to visit, especially if you’re looking to head off the beach and explore the rest of this Indian land of mystery.

The Brunton Boatyard is situated at the mouth of Fort Cochin's harbour resurrected from the remains of a Victorian shipbuilding yard and has magnificent views of the sea and Delta. The hotel overlooks the large pool, garden and the sea.
Brunton Boatyard is located at the northern edge of Fort Cochin and within easy walking distance of all the major sights in the heart of the old city.
Although a new building, commissioned in 1999, the Brunton Boatyard is built in the style of early Dutch and Portuguese architecture and resembles the old colonial buildings of Cochin. With punkah fans hanging in the public areas, it is rather easy to be taken back in time. Run by CGH Earth who operate a number of Keralan hotels, Brunton Boatyard promotes an eco-friendly approach to tourism.
There are 22 rooms at Brunton Boatyard, each providing sea views. With high ceilings and traditional furnishings such four poster beds and teak furniture, you get a wonderfully colonial feel. The bathrooms are state of the art and offer walk in power showers.
The hotel has a stunning swimming pool located in front of the hotel right next to the sea. The views out are wonderful, although it is on a shipping lane which on the plus side does in itself reflect nicely off the nautical theme of the hotel.
There are three restaurants including History and the Terrace Grill which specialises in fresh seafood. We think the food is some of the best in Kerala, so even if you don't end up staying here, you might want to come along for dinner.
At Brunton Boatyard there are 26 Rooms in total, all sea facing with four deluxe suites and 22 standard rooms all individually decorated with an eclectic blend of English, Portuguese and Dutch influences. Soaring ceilings, hanging fans, and everywhere, artefacts and curios from the great age of steam and sail. In-room amenities include minibar, TV, air-con and Ayurvedic products from Biotique.
Children are welcome to come and stay at Brunton Boatyard. A cot or an extra bed can be added to parents' room and a babysitting service can be requested if needed.
The hotel have an outdoor swimming pool located is on the edge of the harbour front. There is an Ayurvedic Centre for basic treatments and massages for those guests who want to relax or perhaps learn about the wonders of Keralan food enjoy a cooking session with one of the Hotel's chefs. For those guests who want to unwind after a day exploring the city enjoy some time in the library reading one of the many novels.
DVDs available on request, WiFi in lobby.

Part of the CGH group, Brunton Boatyard emphasises eco-sensitive tourism and is a wonderful old property that was once an old Victorian boatyard and is now transformed into a luxury heritage hotel. Rooms are spacious and every room overlooks the pool, gardens and the harbour. The rooms are heritage style with antique beds you climb into with little footstools and decorated with antiques and fine artwork. The bathrooms have power showers and are all provided with eco friendly CGH amenities. There is a large swimming pool, three restaurants and a host of activities. There are suites (corner rooms) with private dining rooms and a pantry as well. The restaurants include the History Restaurant, The Terrace Grill (seafood restaurant) , and the Armoury (cocktail lounge and coffee shop) . The cuisine is like everything else in Cochin a melting point of Portuguese, Dutch, British, Syrian Christian, Jewish, Arabic and Middle eastern food as well as southern Indian delicacies.

Brunton Boatyard is a wonderful option for your stay in Cochin. The hotel is located right on the harbour front which means you get excellent views from both your bedroom and from the pool. The service offered here is great and there are plenty of activities to get involved in, including cooking demonstrations and sunset boat tours.
