Greece for Families

Greece is one of our favourite destinations for a luxury family holiday. Whether you want to help your kids learn about this country's ancient past or simply spend some quality time with your loved ones in a beautiful place, a magical time is guaranteed for the whole group. Family is at the heart of Greek culture. Because of this, many hotels and restaurants specifically cater to those with children and there are plenty of attractions and activities for everyone at any age. From island-hopping and discovering ancient ruins with your little ones to tasting local delicacies and soaking up some Mediterranean sun, a luxury family holiday to Greece with Scott Dunn is an unforgettable experience.

Things to Do on a Greece Family Holiday

One of the reasons that Greece is such a good destination for family holidays is the variety of activities on offer. From outdoor adventures like sailing and hiking, to visiting cultural attractions and ancient ruins, there’s no shortage of things to do in Greece with your family.

Our expert travel specialists can help you build out an itinerary based on what you want to see and do. For example, you might want to experience the best of Greek cuisine with an authentic cooking class that begins with a tour of a local farm to learn more about the seasonal produce. If you're looking for something more physically active, why not head out on one of our guided hikes from Oia to Fira or take a stroll around Naxos?

For something slightly different, you could try your hand at moulding clay at a pottery workshop in Sifnos. Of course, visiting such a historic country also means you and your loved ones have the perfect opportunity to educate yourselves during a tour of Ancient Athens.

We want your trip to be truly bespoke to you, which is why we offer something for everyone on our luxury family holidays to Greece.

Best Places to Visit on a Luxury Family Holiday to Greece

Deciding where to go on holiday in Greece with your family can be a daunting task. Luckily, our travel experts have curated a list of the best places to visit during your break - from the best islands for families to unmissable attractions on the mainland.

Athens

Starting off our list is Greece’s iconic capital: Athens. With all major airlines around the world landing here first, it’s the perfect way to start your mainland Greece family holiday adventure before heading out to the islands.

However, you may not want to be so quick to leave as there is a wealth of things to do with the whole family in Athens. The birthplace of Western civiliation, Athens is full of world-famous archaeological sites like the Parthenon and the Acropolis, which bring the past to life for kids of all ages. There are also numerous museums to explore, such as the Museum of Cycladic Art and the Hellenic Children’s Museum, where kids can learn about how the ancient Greeks used to live.

We’d also recommend a visit to the Plaka neighbourhood, the oldest and one of the most beautiful in Athens. Nestled under the shadow of the Acropolis, the streets of Plaka are filled with bright restaurants, cafes and shops - a great place to spend a leisurely afternoon sampling Greek dishes and browsing for souvenirs.

Greece expert and Travel Specialist Milly Darnell says: “Athens is the ideal Greek destination for families because it provides ancient history, fun neighbourhoods and lots of family fun activities including cooking classes, Olympic-focussed tours, and nearby coastal towns."

The Peloponnese

A unique region known for its charming, authentic villages, stunning coastline and plethora of Ancient Greek monuments; the Peloponnese is a must-visit destination when on holiday in Greece with family.

History buffs can visit historical sites like Sparta and Mycenae or take a trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Olympia and explore the ancient remains of this former hub for sport and worship. For older kids, travel to the buzzy town of Kalavryta, complete with stunning views, hiking trails and even a ski resort if you're planning a winter visit.

Alternatively, if you're looking for a more relaxing itinerary, the Peloponnese is also home to unbeatable beaches and scenic seaside towns, perfect for a few lazy days in the sun.

Crete

This first island on our list, Crete is a popular spot for anyone visiting Greece, but especially for families on holiday. From cultural experiences like visiting Europe’s oldest city, Knossos, and soaking in the region’s rich gastronomic offerings, to more adventurous activities like trying your hand at water sports in the bright Aegean Sea, there’s an almost endless list of things to do on the country's largest island.

Here you’ll find some of the friendliest family resorts in Greece with water parks and water slides, complemented by spa facilities to keep everyone entertained. When it comes to hotels in Greece, we’d especially recommend a stay at Daios Cove hotel, a 5-star hotel with spectacular views, a private beach and an exclusive Scott Dunn explorers kids club so you can enjoy some guilt-free time to yourself.

Corfu

Corfu is a breathtaking island that is similar to Crete, but on a smaller scale. An excellent family-friendly destination, here you can get your culture fix by wandering through the Old Town and dining on delicious local delicacies - we especially recommend trying any fresh seafood dishes available. When you’re ready for your adventure fix, we recommend a trip to the Aqualand Water Park.

Corfu is also a great destination for a mini-island-hopping excursion, with the islands of Paxos and Antipaxos situated just off the coast. Only reachable by boat and with a population of just 2,500 people, Paxos is an ideal day trip from Corfu. Expect lush greenery, crystal-clear waters and traditional taverna, perfect for a relaxing family meal on the waterfront.

Cyclades Islands

Characterised by idyllic sandy beaches, iconic architecture and warm and hospitable locals, the Cyclades Islands are some of the most well-known and beautiful islands in Greece, with each one offering something unique to enjoy. While other islands may offer more thrilling activities, visiting the Cyclades is all about relaxation.

Travel to Paros for charming boutiques, head to Naxos for an unbeatable foodie scene, or for a truly luxurious Greek family holiday, soak in the cobbled streets, bright white buildings and enchanting pink Bougainvillaea flowers of Mykonos.

What Our Guests Have to Say

Luxury Greece Family Holiday FAQs

  • When's the best time to book a luxury family holiday to Greece?

Our luxury accommodation, experiences and tours are popular and can get booked up quickly during peak travel times, like school holidays. So we recommend booking your family holiday to Greece at least 6 months before. However, if you’re not constrained by school breaks, Greece can be one of the most flexible destinations for last-minute trips.

  • When's the best time to visit Greece on a family holiday?

Greece enjoys warm, sunny weather for most of the year. In the summer months of June to August, temperatures are often in the high 30s and sometimes reach the 40s, which can be uncomfortable for some – especially if you're moving between several locations. Spring and autumn are typically a touch quieter, with slightly cooler temperatures, while the winter months are most suited to exploring the mainland as a lot of the islands close down. See our guide on the best time to visit Greece to help you plan your trip.

  • What do the Explorers Kids' Clubs involve?

We provide clubs for children from four months to 11+ years. We know that, sometimes, you just need a break but at the same time you want to know your little ones are in safe hands and are enjoying themselves. That's exactly what our Explorers Kids' Clubs offer. Take advantage of our club at Daios Cove, which is perfect for those with younger kids. It's situated right in the heart of the hotel and boasts a specially designed nap area. Then there's our club at Costa Navarino, which includes an onsite Aqua Park to keep your little ones cool. Our Explorers Kids' Clubs really can ensure both you and your children enjoy your Greece family holiday to the fullest.

  • Do your luxury family holidays to Greece include tours?

Yes, our Greece tours feature options that are suited to adults and children alike. You can explore Athens and Costa Navarino, staying in hotels with views over the Acropolis. Alternatively, you could opt for family fun in the Greek islands, where you can swim in the crystal-clear waters off Sifnos and relax on the private beaches of Paros.

  • How do I plan my luxury family holiday to Greece?

You can leave the organisation of your trip entirely up to us. All you have to do is give us a few ideas about what you and your loved ones would like to see and do, and we'll take care of all the planning for you. After all, family holidays to Greece or anywhere else should be all about relaxation and enjoyment – so let us do the stressful part.
