In addition to an abundance of birds, Caño Negro it is also home to many exciting animals, such as sloths, three types of monkeys, caimans, lizards, bats, and a variety of flora native to the wetlands. The excursion to this beautiful region leaves from La Fortuna and travels approximately 1-hour and 45-minutes to Los Chiles, a rustic village just three kilometres from the Nicaraguan border. You will then board a boat ride to the wetlands. On the way, you will see many bird and animal species. Around noon you will stop along the river for a typical Costa Rican lunch before heading back to Los Chiles for your journey back to Arenal. This excursion can also be done by canoe or sit on top kayak which takes about 2 hours.
