Experiences and activities in the Virungas
Rwanda's Parc National des Volcans surely must rank at the top of any list for the sheer majesty of its landscapes. It's a land of soaring cloud capped volcanoes, beautiful mountain lakes and warm welcoming people.
Visitors are drawn to this part of Africa because of its most famous resident, the Mount Gorilla, but when you are not focused on the Great Apes, you certainly won't find yourself at a loss for things to do. Trekking to Dian Fossey's grave and the gorilla cemetery, the final resting place of her favourite gorilla, Digit, is a moving experience. Lake Kivu is home to some of the finest inland beaches in Africa. Take a guided walk to Lake Bulera to experience local village life. Visits to local schools and the community projects sponsored by the Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust are a rewarding experience and another example of the importance of tourism to this area.
