Lofoten Islands
The Lofoten Islands are otherworldly in their beauty, a serrated landscape of jagged peaks and moody, cobalt blue waters high above the Arctic Circle. Up close the countryside softens; charming fishing villages nestle in secluded bays, rolling pastures are speckled with sheep and the hills are criss-crossed with walking trails that open up onto spectacular panoramas of the islands and mainland.
As with much of Norway, the Lofoten Islands are best explored outdoors, whether kayaking across pristine waters to hidden coves, spotting white-tailed sea eagles and whales, or hiking through a landscape of spectacular unspoilt natural beauty.
