Waiheke Island Private Art Tour
Waiheke Island, Auckland and the Coromandel, New Zealand
Waiheke is currently home to over 100 working artists. Pre-eminent sculptor Dennis O'Connor came to Waiheke 40 years ago and has since gathered around him a number of like minded painters, potters and glass makers who are inspired by the island.
Today, Waiheke boasts a truly international mix of artists who regularly particulpate in the island's art programmes and festivals.
It also has a strong group of indigenous local artists who are predominantly engaged in the carving of stone, wood and Pounamu (greenstone) as well as traditional flax weaving.
