The Maldives has a tropical climate distinguished by two seasons, or monsoons: the dry northeast monsoon from December to March, and the wet southwestern monsoon from May to November, with more strong winds and rain. April is a transitional period noted for clear water and heat. The temperature remains remarkably consistent at around 30°C.
February to April is the hottest period and resorts are almost all operating at capacity during this period. Mid-December to early January comes at even more of a premium due to Christmas and New Year and prices are even higher. Easter and the Italian holiday week in August also attract peak prices at most resorts.
Storms are more likely from May to November, though it’s still warm, skies can be cloudy and the humidity is higher. This is the low season, with fewer people and lower prices, with the exception of August.
Diving is good year-round, although a basic rule is that life on the reef is more varied and visibility better on the western side of any atoll from May to November and from the eastern side of any atoll December to April.
The surfing season runs from March to October, which is when resorts are cheapest.

It is impossible not to feel relaxed within the first hour of reaching this incredible resort. The laid back 'no shoes, no news' motto is fantastic, there is something quite liberating about giving up your shoes on the boat and walking barefoot for your entire stay - it somehow makes you feel more grounded.
The villas here are all over water and have a fabulous bathroom with glass floor and separate outdoor shower. Replacing the traditional plunge pool there's a more eco-friendly version in what they call the water garden. Accessed via steps down into the ocean from your outdoor bathroom, here you can swim in your own walled water garden with visiting fish!
The food is great here and with much of it produced on island it is incredibly fresh. 80% of the vegetables are grown in the resort's impressive vegetable and herb garden. The main restaurant serves a varied menu and has a fresh salad bar. We dined here during their Maldivian themed night and enjoyed an array of different curries and grills accompanied by a 2 piece band playing traditional Maldivian songs.
They also have a Japanese restaurant serving fresh sushi and teppanyaki in yet another glorious location overlooking the water.
I certainly recommend a visit to the spa, we enjoyed a special mother and daughter spa experience where we made a body scrub with natural ingredients then applied it before having a wonderful full body massage whilst watching the fish swim underneath through the treatment room's glass floor!

Gili Lankanfushi is a little piece of paradise! There is nothing better than having your shoes taken away and feeling the sand between your toes all week. All of the villas at Gili are over water, offering a really generous amount of space and privacy, and the rustic design really adds to the desert island feel. One thing that really will make your holiday special is your having your very own Mr Friday; on hand to do whatever it takes to make your holiday that little bit better - it's far too easy to get used to having him around!
Built using sustainable materials and furnished with natural fabrics, Soneva Gili is eco-conscious but also very chic. There are 45 contemporary over-water villas, two restaurants, a bar, a subterranean wine cellar, a swimming pool, a tennis court and a dive centre. The Six Senses spa is in its own tranquil, over-water domain. While all the rooms are gorgeous (each with a sun deck and open-air bathroom), the Private Reserve is spectacular. Reached by boat, it has three bedrooms, its own spa, a waterslide and resident staff.
X-factor Each luxury water villa has been designed to provide 360-degree ocean views; the open-air bathrooms ensure guests don't have to miss a single moment of sea-scanning.

The over water villas at Soneva Gili are definitely something to write home about. With plenty of space and numerous sunbathing spots, you won't want or need to leave your villa. You really do not need to lift a finger as each villa is assigned a Friday to be at your beck and call to ensure you have a holiday of a lifetime!

This property never fails to blow me away. Every time I return I fall in love with the rustic nature of the design, which does not compromise on luxury while maintaining the eco ethos of the resort. The staff are always so charming and really believe in what Six Senses aim to offer. The food, even buffets (which I’m not always so keen on) are second to none and along with Soneva Fushi I think offers some of the best cuisine The Maldives have to offer. The villas here are vast with huge living space including a roof top deck - perfect for dining and sleeping under the stars.
