Best weather between March and September, but as with anywhere in the tropics, afternoon showers shouldn't be a shock. Temperatures rarely drop much below 30 degrees.

Description
Located on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Tanjong Jara Resort is a charming boutique beach property. With design inspired by traditional Malay palaces, and warm local hospitality, the resort offers a luxurious but authentic retreat.
Tanjong Jara Resort sits on a long crescent of golden beach fringed by palm trees, overlooking the turquoise waters of the South China Sea. The resort's fairly quiet and remote location creates an appealing local-feel, whilst still offering a high-standard of facilities and accommodation. There are 100 en-suite rooms, decorated with furnishings crafted from local timber. The design is modern, but also features elegant local touches. The higher room categories have large outdoor verandas, many of which face the sea.
Dining at Tanjong Jara Resort is an experience in itself. There are no menus at the Di Atas Sungei restaurant; instead the resort's 'Menu Masters' will guide you through a personalised choice of dishes, using the best fresh local produce. Other dining options include Nelayan, where you can have freshly cooked seafood by the beach, and Teratai Terrace, where you can enjoy light meals for lunch, steamboat for dinner and enjoy cocktails and private dining in the evenings. The resort has an inviting infinity pool with views towards the sea, and there is also a separate adults-only pool. The award-winning spa is a peaceful sanctuary housed in an area of tranquil ponds and gardens, and the unique restorative Malay therapies have been handed down from generation to generation.
Culture and appreciation of the natural surroundings are an integral part of the Tanjong Jara Resort experience. Cooking classes with the chef include visits to the local market, and it is possible to go a walk with the resort's naturalist to learn about the area's flora and fauna. The seasonal snorkelling and diving in this area are excellent and the nearby Tenggol Island is part of the fabulous Terengganu Marine Park. The hotel has its own PADI Dive Centre and caters to every level of experience. Tanjong Jara Resort also works in conjunction with Lang Tengah Turtle Watch - a local initiative introduced to better protect the resident turtles and to raise awareness for sustainable food practices. As such a turtle hatchery has been launched at the resort for guests to enjoy - discover more about these magnificent creatures and learn about the conservation efforts in place to ensure their survival. Guests can listen to informative talks or get involved in inspecting the nests (during nesting season and subject to availability), there is also a turtle adoption programme running alongside the sustainability programme allowing guests to protect the turtles long after they have left Malaysia.
Accommodation
There are 100 rooms in total at Tanjong Jara. The Bumbung and Serambi Rooms are in a two-storey building, with the first floor Bumbung rooms having wonderful views of the sea or gardens, and below them the Serambi Rooms having the addition of a partially covered veranda. The Anjung Rooms are single storey and are on the beachfront with private outdoor courtyards with sunken baths. There are two exclusive, semi-detached rooms right on the seafront. These Anjung Seafront rooms are a perfect modern beach hideaway, set right on the beach facing the beautiful South China Sea.
Childcare
Children are very welcome to come and stay at Tanjong Jara and family and children's activities (such as batik painting) can be easily arranged. Babysitting is also readily available on request and interconnecting rooms are available.

Di Atas Sungei restaurant sits above the river and has no menu; instead the chef will create different dishes every day based on the freshest local produce. The Teratai Terrace sits next to the pool, serving tandoori dishes for lunch and cocktails and private dining in the evening. At the Nelayan you can enjoy seafood by candlelight in a beachfront setting. The hotel's spa is a sanctuary specialising in restorative Malay treatments. There is a PADI dive centre, library, two swimming pools and two tennis courts.

The location of Tanjong Jara isnt something that would immediately come to mind, but it should! With a gorgeous beachfront location just outside of Kuala Terangganu, Tanjung Aru is a wonderful place to stay for a week or so. You can enjoy one of the two pools, take trips out to a nearby Tenggol island, see turtles during the right season, head into the jungle, do some diving, explore local villages so there is much more to it than just a beachfront property. The lead-in room category here is actually very good value for the room which is incredibly spacious with a huge bathroom and room for an extra bed. It doesnt have a balcony though and you may want to upgrade a seaview room. The beach has lovely golden sands but the sea can be a little rough at times. Their main restaurant Di Atas Sungai has a talking menu in the evening so the chefs will come and discuss your menu with you which is a really special experience making each dish very personal and very fresh.

Tanjong Jara Resort is located in the state of Terengganu on the East coast of Malaysia. Just a short flight from Kuala Lumpur, its a perfect spot for those who want some time on the beach and want to taste some of most exceptional food in Malaysia. It also ticks all the boxes having a whole heap of activities on offer. Its understated luxury and location make it very unique and their Anjung Suites are stunning, so cool and spacious with luxurious bathrooms. Their walking talking chef will cook you food to your preference whilst you enjoy the beauty of the sea in front of you and jungle just behind you. The resorts rooms are designed to replicate the wooden palaces, lived in by the Malay sultans, giving it a very traditional feel. The beach is endless however slightly more rugged than the beaches in Thailand. Sometimes the current and lead to quite big waves.

The holiday was absolutely fantastic - everything worked perfectly in terms of transfers and the hotel was beautiful...especially the beach. I've had the fortitude to spend time on a lot of beaches around SE Asia and Tarong Jara's is definitely in the top 3. The service was slick and you were right about Chef Ann - she is hilarious and the food amazing. The room was also lovely - very spacious and comfortable.

The Tanjong Jara Resort, sister property to the Pangkor Laut Resort, is a beach hotel on Malaysia's east coast. The ten Anjung Rooms set along the beach are large and supremely private, whilst the ground floor Serambi Rooms and elevated Bumbung Rooms offer lovely views and beautiful accommodation. There's also a spa, two restaurants, a library, tennis courts and two swimming pools, along with a myriad of other activities, from bike riding to mangrove exploring! The property is built in a traditional Malaysian style with lots of dark wood and is really popular with couples and families alike. An onsite PADI dive centre is a real draw, with some superb snorkelling and diving in close proximity to the hotel. Tanjong Jaras weather pattern makes it hugely popular with honeymooners in the summer months when the rest of Malaysia is wetter and it combines brilliantly with an exploration of Borneo.
