Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Malaysia’s west coast boasts a warm tropical climate, with high temperatures and humidity throughout the year. The driest months are from December to March, particularly good times to enjoy the islands of Penang, Langkawi or Pangkor when the sun is shining and there is only occasionally rainfall. The rains arrive in April and last until October, with thunderstorms typically occurring in the afternoon. However, these are usually brief and can offer a welcome relief from the humidity during the hotter months.

One of our favourite beach retreats, Casa Del Mar is an award-winning boutique hotel on beautiful Langkawi, offering outstanding value for money and a relaxed and intimate hideaway experience ideal for honeymooners or at the end of a Malaysian holiday.

Set overlooking Langkawi’s lovely Pantai Cenang beach, Casa del Mar is a small boutique hotel with just 34 stylish rooms and suites, all featuring sliding floor-to-ceiling windows that open onto a private terrace facing the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea. Amenities are extremely comfortable and include a plush bed, wall-mounted flat screen TV and iPod docking station, alongside a generous bathroom offering a separate shower and bath.

Dining is a relaxed and romantic affair, with modern Asian and Western dishes served by friendly, attentive staff in a variety of locations, the most enchanting of which is the al fresco La Luna, the hotel’s beachside coconut grove, where you can enjoy a seven-course tasting menu beneath the stars. For a special occasion, the staff can arrange for a cruise amongst Langkawi’s 99 stunning offshore limestone islands before dropping you off on a deserted powder-soft white beach for a gourmet castaway picnic. Casa del Mar’s Satkara spa is inspired by the natural elements of rainforest, ocean and mountain, and incorporate traditional Malaysian healing techniques and organic botanicals to leave you feeling replenished and revitalised.

Hard as it will be to tear yourself away, Langkawi has some beguiling treasures to discover. The resort has its own speedboat for exclusive use of Casa del Mar guests, allowing you to explore the extraordinary tropical scenery, and there are hobie cats and sea kayaks available to those who would prefer. Snorkelling and diving trips can also be arranged, and wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy exploring the rainforested interior, home to giant hornbills, dusky leaf monkeys and colugos. The famed Langkawi cable car offers wonderfully panoramic vistas, while cycling through the local paddy fields provides a slower and more intimate acquaintance with the island.
