Kanazawa
With little damage from the Second World War, Kanazawa has many historical attractions including Nachamachi, the former samurai district; traditional Chaya restaurants where geisha perform and Kanazawa Castle dating from 1583, which is being restored to its former glory. Yet the main attraction is Kenrokuen Garden, one of Japan’s top three gardens, which includes delightful miniature landscapes.
One of Japan’s most beautiful gardens, Kenrokuen means ‘garden combining six,’ which refers to the six characteristics it is believed gardens should showcase: spaciousness; human ingenuity; seclusion; antiquity; water and wonderful views. A place for quiet reflection, a wander through the ponds, waterfalls, bridges, teahouses and miniature landscapes is not to be missed.
