Calcutta and much of Northeast India has three main seasons: Summer, Monsoon, and Winter. The best time to visit Calcutta is between October until March when the weather is very pleasant. Summer, during March until May, is best avoided with soaring temperatures and high levels of humidity. The monsoon starts in June and lasts till September/ October with the wettest month in August.

The Oberoi Grand is located in the heart of Calcutta, the City of Joy. Its period features and tranquillity offer the perfect respite from the pace of Calcutta. The Oberoi Grand has an effortless fusion of classical Victorian and traditional Indian style.
The Oberoi Grand is over a century old with its neo-classical facade and grand pillared entrance representing a fusion of classical Victorian and traditional Indian architectural styles which reflect the city’s colonial history. It is the foremost hotel in Calcutta, offering a central location whilst being an oasis from the hustle and bustle of fast moving Calcutta.
The Oberoi's 204 rooms and suites offer tasteful luxury with period charm, combining modern amenities with antique furniture. Suites feature king size four poster beds, well-appointed bathrooms with Ayurvedic toiletries and balconies overlooking the courtyard, garden or pool.
The Grand has two restaurants serving sumptuous international and Thai cuisines and a bar. The spa at the Grand offers the highest levels of relaxation and rejuvenation whether you are beginning or ending your time in the subcontinent in Calcutta. To many, the highlight of the Grand is its tranquil inner courtyard containing the swimming pool, where guests can enjoy cocktails almost unaware that Calcutta exists beyond this inner sanctum.
The Oberoi Grand hotel offers 43 Classic Rooms, 88 Deluxe Rooms, 73 Premier Rooms, 3 Junior Suites, 3 Executive Suites and 3 Deluxe Suites. Suites feature king size four poster beds, well appointed bathrooms with Ayurvedic toiletries and balconies overlooking the courtyard, garden or pool.
Children are welcome but there are no specific facilities except baby sitting on request. Children will love the many cultural attractions around the city of Calcutta particularly the colonial buildings and some of the finest museums in the country.
Facilities at the Oberoi Grand Hotel include an outdoor swimming pool, steam room, sauna, spa offering treatments based on Aromatherapy, Ayurveda, Eastern and Western techniques, fully equipped fitness centre, two restaurants serving international and Thai cuisines and a bar.
Services include broadband Internet, a business centre, beauty salon, laundry and valet service and an on call doctor.
Attractions in the local area include the Victoria Memorial containing a collection of Victorian memorabilia, including Queen Victoria's Piano. Nearby is the old British fort, Fort William and the 48-metre high Ochterlony Monument along with the Kalighat temple and the Raj Bhavan which was once the residence of the British Viceroy in India. The Indian Museum is perhaps one of the finest museums in Asia, with an excellent collection of art, as well as fossils and meteorites.

The Oberoi Grand has one of the best locations in Calcutta. It surrounds a central courtyard which is a great place to sit and have a cocktail, almost unaware the bustle of Calcutta is about 30 metres away. Walk through the lobby and out into the magic which is Calcutta. For me, it's the only place to stay in the city.
