Luxor
No visit to Egypt would be complete without discovering Luxor. Known as the world’s largest open-air museum, its ancient monuments are impressive. The enormous Karnak Temple, dramatic Valley of the Kings and riverside Luxor Temple steal the show. The town is a good place to experience Egyptian life - disappear into a bustling souk, or take a traditional felucca ride down the Nile river.
Luxor is the ancient city of Thebes, and home to Karnak Temple. Be dwarfed by gigantic statues and obelisks as you wander amidst the temples and Avenue of the Sphinxes. One of our highlights is the mesmerising son et lumière show. Slip by the huge statute of Ramses II at Luxor Temple, before exploring the tombs in the Valley of the Kings. It is here that archaeologist Howard Carter discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb. A lovely end to the day is a sunset felucca cruise on the Nile; step on-board a traditional boat and enjoy a drink as you sail along.
