Located on cliffs overlooking the Boteti River, Meno A Kwena is a unique camp which harks back to the authentic safari experience of the past. The traditional style is combined with modern facilities, as well as superb river views.

Meno a Kwena (Tooth of the Crocodile) sits above the Boteti River, which itself forms the boundary of the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. During the dry season, the waterholes of the river attract some 50,000 zebra each year - this is the second largest zebra migration in all of Africa.

Perched high on the riverbank of the Boteti River, the lounge area has an authentic feel, full of fascinating photographs and various intriguing objects from the African bush. A unique natural rock plunge pool is the perfect place in the dry season to observe the competition for water at the river's edge below.

A lot of emphasis is placed on the ‘theatre view’ from camp, so no matter where guests are they may watch the scenes play out below. Tents are protected by a thorny closure, yet still provide superb views of the wildlife enjoying the river below. If guests are keen for a closer view, a spacious floating hide offers uninterrupted views of the local wildlife, including hippo, elephant, giraffe, and many more.

The nine comfortable tents and one large family tent are traditionally decorated, reminiscent of the original safari experience. Alongside features such as outdoor bucket showers, which transport you back in time, each tent provides modern facilities such as flush toilets.

Excursions can be organised to incorporate three protected wildlife sanctuaries in the Kalahari – The Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pans National Parks, and Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The location of the camp, puts it in a unique position to experience extensive and varied Kalahari safaris. One of the highlights is walking with the San Bushmen, who give a unique insight into their way of life, and provide an unforgettable safari experience.

Guests at Meno a Kwena are accommodated in nine Meru tents and one family tent which includes a king sized bed and three singles. Each tent has en-suite facilities, complete with flush toilet and outdoor bucket showers. The tents are hidden amongst natural vegetation for privacy but still boast views of the Boteti River where you can observe wildlife coming and going for a drink. The tents are all located within a thorny closure for safety.

Children are welcome to come and stay at the camp, however it must be noted that there are no specific childcare facilities available for them.

Camp cuisine is an authentic experience, cooked on open wood fires and in tin box ovens in the ground. Fresh baked bread from the coals of a hardwood fire is a perennial favourite. The camp has a small plunge pool for guest to enjoy between safaris.

Game drives can be arranged in open 4x4 vehicles into the three Kalahari wildlife sanctuaries – Makgadikgadi Pans and Nxai Pan National Parks, and the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Guided walks with the San Bushmen are extremely rewarding, and a fascinating way to experience safari from a different perspective. Enjoy a sunset cruise along the Boteti gorge, or for the adventurous, a sleep out in Makgadikgadi Salt Pans for a truly unforgettable night.

  • Boat safari in the Okavango Delta

Travel through the waterways of the Okavango Delta on a boat safari, exploring the papyrus reeds and hippo habitats with your guide. The smooth ride offers a soothing alternative to time spent in a vehicle. Always subject to water levels.

  • Walking Safaris and Nature Walks

Walking in the African bush with a professional safari guide is a fantastic experience. Enjoy a completely different perspective on foot than from a vehicle.

  • Walking with the Kalahari Bushmen

The San interpret the signs of the bush like no one else, all senses build a picture of their world. Beyond this, on the hunt, San tap into the spirit world, entering the minds of their quarry. This natural understanding has to be seen to be believed.
