The St Regis Mardavall was refurbished both inside and out in 2008 by the renowned architect Claudio Carbone. His principle goal was to make as much use as possible of natural light and as you walk into the impressive lobby this is clearly evident.
Just a short drive from Palma, which in itself is a short flight from London, this hotel is a super vacation destination for families seeking sun but also a short journey time. It is also generally cooler in the summer months than further south in the Mediterranean, another reason why it is so well suited to families.
Main swimming pool
The ground floor deluxe rooms – that can interconnect – are perfect for children as the patio doors open up straight into the vast lawned gardens. Like here in the UK, Mallorca has had a cool spring so we were lucky enough on my visit to see everything in full bloom.
Gardens in bloom
The children’s club is fabulous – we almost wanted to sit in the shade of the newly built sand pit overlooking the sea and build a sand castle! The shallow, heated pools with sloping entrance and fun waterfall are perfect for stress free paddling and swimming with the kids.
Kids swimming pool and sea view
The nearby Puerto Portals is just a 5 minute walk and there you can find lovely sandy beaches to enjoy during your stay. There is a small cove directly in front of the hotel perfect for a quick dip – but better to head to the bigger beach for a day on a sun lounger or playing on the sand. There are lovely beachside and port restaurants for a morning coffee or bite to eat.
Pontoon and beach
Back at the hotel the main restaurant serves fabulous tapas as well as traditional Mediterranean fare – could almost not get up from my chair after one lunch! The Michelin starred restaurant is definitely worth a visit at some point during your stay. Perhaps whilst making use of the babysitting facilities!
