The Maldives Archipelago is an expansive cluster of islands surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean – arguably the ultimate island paradise. It’s a truly remarkable place, with luxury overwater villas, infinity pools that stretch into the electric blue sea and an array of activities on land and water make it a wonderful escape for families or honeymoons. With so many incredible options to choose from, it’s hard to know which resort is best for you, luckily we have Asia Travel Expert, Kirsty to make the decision a lot easier. Here is her guide to finding the best property in the Maldives for you…
Before I ventured to the Maldives, I was under the impression that it was a destination one predominantly went to for their honeymoon. However, after being there for less than five minutes I instantly realized how wrong I was.
There are over 100 resorts in the Maldives, and each one offers something truly unique, so there really is something for everyone. Once you arrive at your private island, you typically won’t leave, so it’s essential that you pick the resort that is right for you. This is where we come in. Here at Scott Dunn, our team members have been to pretty much all the different properties that we work with, so we really do have first-hand knowledge of why each property is so special and what it can offer you. We can help you narrow down the overwhelming choices to help you find the atoll and island that is the perfect fit for you.
Before booking your vacation to the Maldives, there are a few things you need to decide to ensure you end up at the luxury property that is best for you:
– How many nights do I want to be away for?
– Does it need to be adults only? Or do I need somewhere that caters to children?
– Do I want to just lie by the pool/beach? Or I do want somewhere that has a wide range of activities?
– Do I want to stay in an overwater villa? Or a private villa on the beach?
– Do I want to arrive in style by seaplane? Or efficiently by boat?
– Do I want to surf, dive, or snorkel? Or do I want motorized sports?
– Do I want to stay on an all-inclusive basis?
Based off your answers, here are some of the properties I would recommend:
Milaidhoo:if you want to experience a seaplane
There is something seriously special about flying over the Maldives and into the BAA Atoll, which is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, to arrive at Milaidhoo in style. This small, private, luxe island is perfect for honeymooners and is the epitome of barefoot luxury. If you are looking for that unique seaplane experience, that offers breathtaking views, then I highly recommend spending your time at this tiny tropical island. It’s one of the most luxurious properties I saw in the Maldives.
Gili Lankanfushi: if you want to stay in an overwater villa
Gili Lankanfushi is an incredible place and an extremely popular option among the Travel Consultants at Scott Dunn USA. The island offers 45 sumptuous overwater villas, which are some of the largest in the country, it is perfect for those wanting to explore this style of accommodation. What I loved about Gili is that they really do adhere to the, “no shoes, no news” rule and they very cleverly manage to maintain that high level of luxury while keeping the integrity of a rustic island.
Amilla Fushi: if you want an island filled with activities
I can honestly say if you stay at Amilla Fushi then you will never be bored. The island is perfect for families and couples and offers a variety of activities that appeal to both. This stylish and contemporary island is complete with a water sports centre, tennis courts, an outdoor cinema and a wonderful spa for you to enjoy. If you stay at Amilla Fushi, make sure to speak to your consultant about making a dinner reservation at Feeling Koi, their iconic Japanese restaurant.
Baros: if you want impeccable snorkelling right from your doorstep
Within two seconds of exploring Baros’ house reef I had seen a variety of fish, a turtle and a reef shark. It was my first five minutes of snorkelling in the Maldives and the most I saw throughout my time there. Just a short speedboat away from Male, it is one of the most romantic places I have been in my life, and it is easy to see why it boasts some of the highest number of repeat guests.
OZEN BY ATMOSPHERE AT MAADHOO: if you want an indulgent all-inclusive package
Nothing ruins a vacation quicker than having to open your wallet at the end and face your bill. That is why staying at OZEN is the perfect way to reduce this headache. As one of the only resorts we work with in the Maldives that offers an all-inclusive package, I highly recommend this five-star property and taking full advantage of their first luxury all-inclusive ‘Indulgence’ plan. This plan will allow you to feel total peace of mind and freedom during your stay without it being ruined at the end with a massive bill.
