An interview with Sunuva

We’re extremely excited to have partnered with Sunuva, luxury swimwear and beachwear brand for children. In this blog we interview Sabrina, one of the Founder’s of Sunuva, to find out the inspirations behind the brand, her travel top tips and plans for the future.

Where did the idea of Sunuva come from?
The two of us met on holiday when we had 6 young kids between us. We were aware of the importance of protecting young skin from the harmful rays of the sun but we couldn’t find any UV protective swimwear for our kids that had any style, and so the seed of the idea was planted.  Our summer and winter sun collections have grown significantly and now have everything you need for your kids holiday wardrobe from our beautifully designed rash vests with co-ordinating swimwear to the softest cotton beachwear and towelling.

What are your designs and patterns inspired from?
We both have a passion for travel and a lot of our inspiration comes from that, whether for colour or a print story.  It also comes from everything around us – tear sheets from a magazine, the colour of a nail varnish, blossom trees – sources of inspiration are endless!

You started with rash vests and now sell a huge range of clothing and accessories, what can we look forward to next?
We are very excited about our next collection launching in September which is full of gorgeous bright colours and prints, as well as our first capsule towelling collection for girls and boys including hoodies, shorts, dresses and polo shirts.  We will also be introducing our own printed espadrilles and a new swim trunk style (now required for public swimming pools in a number of European countries such as France).  At the same time, we will be developing our online presence to offer great travel recommendations based on our own experiences of places to visit, eat and stay.

Where are your favourite travel destinations and hotels?
For a complete chill in the summer and not too far away from home, the Marbella Beach Club in Spain and the Borgo Egnazia in Puglia are fabulous hotels with great kids clubs.  Alternatively, Forte dei Marmi in Tuscany is a wonderful beach town for families with long, deep beaches and plenty of hotels to choose from. Everybody cycles everywhere and it’s great fun to hire a family rickshaw! For winter sun, we love the One&Only Palmilla in Los Cabos and the Four Seasons Biltmore in Santa Barbara.

You both have children, what are your top tips for travelling with families?
Lightweight suitcases with multi-directional wheels so that the kids can easily push their own luggage through the airport! Bring lots of healthy snacks in your hand-luggage in case the kids won’t eat the in-flight food or there are unexpected delays. If flying long-haul, get the kids onto destination time as soon as you get on the plane.  Let the kids have as much computer game/movie time as they like – it makes for a more relaxing trip for everyone!

Where’s next on your travel agenda?
An active travel adventure – Costa Rica and Vietnam are at the top of the wish-list.
