Offering extraordinary sea trout fishing and effortless comfort, Kau Tapen is one of the world's great fishing lodges, with access to 10 miles on both banks of the Rio Grande, and sea-run brown trout averaging 12 lbs (some monsters exceed 30 lbs). Here you can enjoy around nine hours of catch-and-release fishing a day, with easy wading on a fine gravel bed. The river is productive throughout the season, and expert guides are on hand to give casting tuition. The lodge itself has spectacular views across the grasslands, roaring fires, wonderful Argentinean wines, and a well-equipped tackle shop with flies, rods, reels, lines and clothing.
During an adventure in New Zealand, you could head south to Lake Taupo, the largest lake in New Zealand, widely known as the trout fishing capital of the Southern Hemisphere. Here you can stay at Huka Lodge where each luxurious suite is just a few paces from the river and its fruits. Once you’ve caught your fill, why not sample New Zealand’s wines in Blemheim before driving through the dramatic scenery of the East Coast to Kaikoura, a unique area which attracts pods of up to 300 dolphins, sperm whales and fur seals.
If you want to mix some fishing time with an exotic beach vacation, the turquoise waters of Mozambique are well worth a visit. The Quirimbas Archipelago just off the northern coast is where you’ll find Vamizi Island Lodge, a handful of luxury beach houses set beside powder white sands, virgin reefs and secret coves. As well as amazing big game fishing and salt water fly-fishing, we can enjoy snorkeling, scuba diving, mountain-biking trails, bird walks and dhow cruises. And if you like, you could add a safari to your vacation by hopping over to Tanzania or Zambia.
Deep inside the Lower Zambezi National Park on the banks of the Zambezi River you’ll find Chiawa, an outstanding safari camp offering superb game viewing, river safaris and great fishing. Set in a grove of mahogany and acacia trees, Chiawa is made up of luxury safari tents, built under thatch. The dining area overlooks the river where animals regularly come to drink and feed.
Lizard Island is Australia’s premier island resort in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef. As well as enjoying fabulous game fishing here, you can taste it too, in the open-air restaurant that serves the finest local produce and fresh seafood. Water-sports are also on offer, as well as tennis, nature walks, and diving.
