Dove Cottage & The Wordsworth Museum
Dove Cottage in the heart of the Lake District was where William Wordsworth wrote some of the greatest poetry in the English language, and where his wife Dorothy kept her famous Grasmere Journal, now on display in the Museum. Entering Dove Cottage, with its stone floors, dark panelled rooms, glowing coal fires and family belongings, will instantly transport you back to the Romantic Period.
Seeing his handwritten words, you will be able to picture Wordsworth at work, transferring his ideas into words and onto paper. Objects, maps, pictures and interactive displays will lead you through Wordsworth’s life and thoughts, and a stroll through the gardens will bring you to the source of much of his inspiration.
