Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge
  • Each stone cottage has an open fireplace for cool evenings

  • Two family cottages each offering two bedrooms for ample space and privacy

  • The main area has specially commissioned artwork from Ugandan artists on the walls

  • The views from the main balcony area stretch across to Rwanda and the Virunga Mountains

Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge has a beautiful position in the southern part of Bwindi National Park. Each of the eight cottages is en-suite with a spacious bedroom and lounge which are linked by a fireplace, ensuring the rooms are kept warm and cosy in the cool evenings. The main lodge facilities include a library and lounge area, a lush botanical garden and a sheltered veranda where guests can relax with a cup of tea enjoying the views. Food is cooked using fresh local produce and is plentiful and tasty. On arrival, you are appointed with your own personal butler, who will attend to your every need, around the clock.

A major advantage with this lodge is that guests can walk from their cottage to the trailhead where they will start and end their gorilla tracking day. The group of gorillas tracked is the Nkuringo Group which can be challenging to visit, and the walk may take four hours or more. The lodge is very involved with the local Nkuringo community and a development fund ensures that the local population directly benefits from each guests stay at the lodge.

Step beyond the luxury of Clouds and you enter the other worldliness that is the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Home to approximately 330 Mountain Gorillas (almost half of the world's total population), Bwindi is the only forest in Africa which has chimpanzees and mountain gorillas co-existing. As well as hosting five other species of primate, the forest contains 113 species of mammal, over 200 species of butterfly, 360 bird species, 324 tree species and even a herd of forest elephant.
