The lodge is very involved with the local Nkuringo community and a development fund ensures that the local population directly benefits from each guests stay at the lodge.

Before it even opened in August 2008, Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge had already caused quite a stir locally, and not just because it was being touted as Uganda's most luxurious place to stay. Its development as part of a unique eco-partnership between the Nkuringo community, the Uganda Wildlife Authority and The Uganda Safari Company (which manages a boutique hotel in Kampala) led to whispers about lack of fair play in the contract and the true sustainability of the project. But few could deny that the finished product is something special. The setting, on a ridge at the edge of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, is sensational. And, after a long day spent tracking gorillas, the eight plush villas are a treat to come back to, thanks to their country-cottage feel and open fires, crackled into life each evening by eager-to-please personal butlers. Stargazing is a peaceful alternative to television, and there are no telephones in the rooms. For the more socially inclined, lodge manager Gary Segal is a lively host and makes a great cocktail that wouldn't be out of place in the most sophisticated bars of London or New York.
A new and exclusive experience, spend a day in the jungle observing Uganda's mountain gorilla, and learning about the species. Help researches in this unique opportunity, aimed at saving the species from extinction.
