Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, and the short rains are in November and December, much lighter than the long rains. January and February are again dry (the short dry season) so this is another good time to visit. The wildebeest migration happens most of year in Tanzania's Serengeti, and is linked to the rainfall.

Itinerary

Journey to Tanzania for an activity filled exploration of the lesser visited Selous Game Reserve. This hidden gem in the south is ideal for intrepid families, due to its offering of immersive safari activities. After an exhilarating wildlife experience, fly over to the island of Zanzibar and delve into the enthralling culture of Stone Town, before sinking into serenity in a luxury retreat for five nights, with doses of adventure along the way.

  1. Fly to Dar es Salaam

  2. Days 1-5: Selous Game Reserve

Touching down in Dar Es Salaam, it’s just a short hop into the Selous Game Reserve by light aircraft. Flying over, you’ll be astonished by the remarkable landscapes, as you watch glistening rivers, verdant forests and palms unravelling before your eyes. You’ll land in the heart of this wilderness where you’ll be met off the plane by your guide, who will game drive you to your exclusive use safari property, Kiba Point, your wild home for the next four nights. Ideal for families, Kiba Point is designed for private groups and boasts a large private swimming pool, lounge areas as well as a team of personal staff - it’s perfect for parents wanting a bit of peace and quiet in between safari activities. During your time here, you can really get immersed in the wilderness whilst enjoying some exhilarating activities. Journey through the wild in your private open safari vehicle, whilst your expert guide involves the whole family in identifying animal tracks. Enjoy a boat safari down the Rufiji River and observe the vibrant colours of kingfishers and African skimmers as you float past pods of hippos. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, venture out on a walking safari and encounter the wildlife around you, before spending the night under a net of star constellations, as you camp out in the depths of the wild.

    Accommodation: Kiba Point (4 nights)

  3. Days 5-7: Stone Town

Now it’s time for a change of scenery. After one last venture out in the Selous, you’ll catch a light aircraft flight to Zanzibar. You will spend the first two nights on this island in the capital, Stone Town, where you’ll be based at the Park Hyatt Hotel. Delve into this cultural melting pot and admire the heritage buildings of this intricate town, as you meander through the streets and markets with your private guide, who will reveal the complex history of Zanzibar and its links with the slave trade. Spend your afternoon’s plunging into tranquillity in the infinity pool overlooking the Indian ocean and watch the dhow boats sailing past at sunset.

Accommodation: Park Hyatt Zanzibar (2 nights)

  4. Days 7-12: Zanzibar Coast, Tanzania

Beach bliss awaits you. This morning your driver will take you across the island to the east coast. Your home for the final five nights of your trip is Baraza Resort, a luxurious retreat that has family fun in mind. Wander through the pristine gardens to your palatial two-bedroom villa and anticipate how you will spend your days ahead. Whether that’s lazing by the glistening pool with a cocktail in hand, walking down the talcum-soft beach, or for those not wanting to relax, (namely teenagers with a lot of energy!) the resort offers a multitude of experiences. Enjoy a fascinating snorkelling safari, a competitive game of beach volleyball or football or cycle along the palm-fringed coastline.

Accommodation: Baraza Resort and Spa (5 nights)

  5. Fly home

Make the most of your last day in paradise, lazing by the pool and perhaps indulging on a seafood lunch, before your driver takes you back to the airport in time for your onward flight.
