To start planning your holiday to Hunter’s Country House
Offering home comforts in country house style, Hunter's Country House offers guests a relaxing stop on a tour of the garden route, close to Plettenburg Bay, it has 21 suites and cottages and excellent facilities for families.
Hunter's Country House is an exclusive family-owned retreat, set in the heart of the magnificent Garden Route of the Western Cape. Situated 10km west of South Africa’s premier resort town of Plettenburg Bay with its endless golden beaches, and just 20km east of the lagoon town of Knysna, the hotel is surrounded by rich indigenous forests and framed by the majestic mountains of the Tsitsikamma Forest. The gracious, original homestead with its white walls and thatched roof is reminiscent of the traditional country architecture of the region and the 21 suites and cottages are spread out around the extensive gardens as well as in the main house. Each is individually decorated and designed with comfort and privacy in mind.
Set in the magnificent gardens with a spectacular view of the Outeniqua Mountains, the Summer House provides an attractive alternative to the more formal dining rooms offering innovative, informal meals for families and couples with a focus on fresh wholesome cuisine. There is also a fantastic wine cellar.
Hunter’s is a good choice for families and offers a variety of activities for children, overseen by a team of professionals in childcare and there are extensive gardens for children to play in.
Hunter's Country House offers 21 cottages and suites. Each Garden Cottage is approximately 45 square metres in size, has a fireplace, air conditioning, minibar, complimentary tea and coffee making facilities, en suite bathroom with separate bath and shower and a garden patio with table and chairs for bird and butterfly spotting.
Hunter's offers fantastic facilities for children. 'Cubs’ Corner' is a dedicated children’s recreation area with paddling pool, jungle gym, shaded sandpit, video / TV / games room and dining room where younger children are minded by trained staff. There is also plenty for them to do in the local area such as visits to Monkeyland, Birds of Eden, the Elephant Sanctuary and Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre.
Facilities at the hotel include a swimming pool, children's area, dining rooms, conservatory, the Summer House and an extensive wine cellar. You can also enjoy Aromatherapy, massages and other treatments in the privacy of your own room if you are feeling like indulging in a bit of pampering.
Aside from swimming, bird watching, walking and spa treatments in and around the hotel, there is plenty to see and do in the local area. Other activities include boat cruises, treetop canopy tours, horse riding, whale watching (July to November) and visits to Monkeyland, Birds of Eden and the Elephant Sanctuary.
Camilla Smith (Staff)
A lovely friendly welcoming property set in pretty gardens; it has a home from home feel with the main house and cottages around the garden. The property has thatched roofs, homely decor and real country feel to it. The main house has a large rather opulant dining room and bar area where people congregate in the evenings for drinks. I would say the property appeals to the older couples and families as there is a great children's area with kids pool and play area and the rooms work well for families.
The Plettenberg Area has so much going on to do and see that Hunter's provides a good base to spend 4 nights or longer!
