Okaukuejo Camp is probably Etosha National Park's most well known and popular rest camps and offers exceptional wildlife sightings thanks to its permanent waterhole. Situated on the south-western perimeter of the Etosha Pan, Okaukuejo is an ideal base for exploring Etosha as part of a self-drive itinerary. It's popularity does make it necessary to book far in advance to guarantee availability.
Whilst Etosha is popular with self-drive visitors it is also possible to arrange a game drive with a guide to make the most of your time in Etosha; a recent addition are night drives which are recommended, and not possible under your own steam. We also recommend that you spend an afternoon in camp watching the busy waterhole. A wide range of game comes to drink from the waterhole during the day and it is floodlit at night, which makes for the best sightings of black rhino; a major reason for choosing to stay at Okaukuejo.
Accommodation at Okaukuejo Camp has a range of rooms (102 in all), but we do recommend opting for either one of the 30 waterhole or five premier waterhole chalets so that you can really make the most of the fabulous position of the camp and in particular the exciting waterhole activity. There are a choice of three swimming pools for cooling off at between activities as well as a restaurant, fuel station and small shop for stocking up on supplies.
