Yangon is full of colonial relics, which provide an amazing contrast against the speedy modernisation of the city. Along the tour your guide will show you the key highlights including the Post Office, Strand Hotel, Mahabandoola Garden and Independence Monument. These sleepy old buildings provide a beautiful insight into times gone by. In comparison the bustling markets in Chinatown and Little India are full of colour and busy day of life. Leading on to Scott’s Market you will have the chance to browse the numerous arts and handicraft stalls and pick up a few souvenirs if you wish.
In contrast again, during the day you will have the chance to visit a number of impressive religious monuments in the city including the Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda with its giant reclining Buddha and of course the unmissable Shwedagon Pagoda, the most revered Buddhist temple in Myanmar. First built 2,500 years ago and today measures 99 metres tall and is completely gilded with gold leaf and is surrounded by 64 smaller stupas.
Throughout the day you’ll have the chance to stop and enjoy some local past times such as taking tea, an integral part of Burmese life! Enjoy relaxing and watching as local life unfolds before you with families socialising and businessmen conducting business. If time allows you can also choose to walk around Kandawgyi Park, the greenest area of Yangon and a lovely spot to spend an hour or two.
