Belmond Governors Residence

  • One of the most beautiful tropical gardens in Yangon

  • Lovely outdoor pool to relax by after a day of sightseeing

  • Enjoy a cooking class along with a trip to the local market to buy the fresh ingredients

Belmond Governor's Residence is one of the most luxurious addresses in Yangon (formerly Rangoon). Built in 1920, The Governor's Residence is housed in a two-storey mansion that was built for one of the Governor's from Burma's southern states. With verandas overlooking the lush lotus gardens and pools, this is a peaceful home in the middle of Yangon.

With only 49 rooms and suites, all housed in the original building, Belmond Governor's Residence offers an intimate experience. All of the rooms are beautifully appointed with teak furniture and silks and have views either onto the inner courtyard or the lotus gardens.

One of the main features of the property is the beautiful fan-shaped swimming pool, surrounded by the tropical gardens and this is perfect to come back to after a busy day's sightseeing. The Mandalay Restaurant offers local and Western cuisine and there are also two picturesque bars for evening cocktails. The aptly-named Governor's Oasis is home to this boutique hotel's peaceful spa, and offers a range of relaxing treatments.

Yangon itself is the bustling cultural capital of Burma, and visitors to the city can visit the beautiful golden Shwedagon Pagoda which is one of the world's most important Buddhist sites. To catch a glimpse of modern life in Yangon, no trip is complete without visiting Bogyoke (or Scott's) Market as well as the everyday markets lining the streets. A wander around Downtown Yangon will give a feel for what the city would have been like as Rangoon during the colonial period with beautifully characterful buildings.
