Finding Nimmo

Our Sales Support for the Americas, Katinka Hughes, recently travelled on an exhilarating journey through British Columbia, Canada with a beautiful stay at the wilderness lodge, Nimmo Bay Resort. Here she tells us all about her wild experience.

Finding Nimmo

Nestled on the edge of the Great Bear Rainforest sits the enchanting wilderness lodge, Nimmo Bay. After a jaw dropping journey over the snow-capped mountains via float plane, we pulled up to the dock and were greeted with smiling staff who instantly made us feel at home, as we were enveloped in the beautiful silence of the forest.

You can tell how the owner, Fraser, has created a property that invites his guests to share his home. Originally a family fishing lodge, Nimmo has discovered the power of wellness and relaxation. This was especially prominent when we hydro-biked (cycling on water - who knew!) to a ‘floating paradise’! What a beautiful way to spend an afternoon, whether that’s sitting in the hot tub drinking cocktails, or looking out onto the surroundings through the window of the sauna. Just before tucking into lunch, we were brought a charcuterie board along with a bottle of sparkling wine and then left alone to enjoy it for the afternoon. This was the perfect way to relax in the middle of the wilderness without sacrificing luxury, come rain or shine.

At Nimmo Bay, every little element has been considered, even down to the food and how each dish is brought to life. Robert, the head chef, creates unique daily menus with locally sourced produce. Robert will fish, dive, forage and more, all to satisfy your taste buds with the most delicious food that you may not have tried before (even the drinks have local delicacies, such as sea lettuce). Nimmo Bay has created an experience called ‘Taste the Wild’. Robert spoke about how “in the modern world, there’s a bit of a disconnect with where food comes from” and that this enhancement is a “really powerful experience for people to get out there and actually get their hands on an ingredient and be able to harvest it themselves”. This culinary delight is like no other and something worth experiencing when visiting Nimmo.

The adventure guides are also both knowledgeable and friendly. One of our guides, Sylvia, spoke about Nimmo Bay and its surrounding natural environment as well as the indigenous people who lived there with so much passion and respect. Our coastal safari adventure took us to huge cedar trees, bird spotting and first-nation pictographs! Sylvia mentioned that the different ecosystems all work together and “if you start to see one being unhealthy, it means the other one will start to decline as well”. After chatting to her, it brought home the importance of how, as tourists, we can look after the different ecosystems in every place we visit around the world.

As Nimmo Bay seeks to expand its wellness programme, they make sure to not let the natural element of the lodge be disrupted. Along with the extensive spa menu, their ‘glacial plunge’ was something not to miss. You can submerge yourself into the freshest waterfall coming straight from the glacier above Nimmo and afterwards make sure to warm up as quickly as possible in one of the outdoor hot tubs! For me, this is the perfect place to visit and just be in nature. An ideal way to break up a jam-packed Canadian trip whilst still having your ‘true Canadian experience’.
