Golf courses in Mallorca

If there is one sport that Mallorca is famous for it’s golf.

Golf courses

For its size, Mallorca can boast one of the highest densities of golf courses in the world. Whether it’s a swift 9 holes you’re after, or a world class round of 18 holes, Mallorca will have a game of golf to suit your taste and your pocket. Below is a list of some of our favourite courses in Mallorca.

Alcanada - Alcúdia, North Mallorca

Two essential requirements for the creation of a top category golf course are a privileged setting and a first rate architect. Both exist at Club de Golf Alcanada in Alcúdia. The club takes its name from a nearby island just off the shore which, complete with its own lighthouse, can be seen from most of the holes. A virgin terrain gently slopes down towards the shoreline, with its pine, olive and oak trees and the mountains of the Sierra de Levante in the background. Almost as spectacular as the design of the course is the view across the bay of Alcúdia. Club de Golf Alcanada is the only course in Mallorca that is right by the sea. It is located in an environmentally important area, and you will frequently find a variety of wildlife and rare birds on the course, particularly in the early morning.

In terms of difficulty it’s a very challenging course for more experienced players. This is the most professional course in Mallorca with breathtaking views and tee times are well ordered so you can enjoy a relatively undisturbed 18 holes. The course features 2 maximum-difficulty holes (2/13) and curious features such as the par 4 9th with a rustic stone house in the middle that makes it hard to play its 320 metres in four shots, the 4th from which you overlook the sea and can even glimpse the neighbouring island of Minorca, and the spectacular 18th with a triple-tiered piano shaped green, visible from the clubhouse terrace.

Pollença’s 9 hole golf course opened in 1986 and underwent a complete renovation programme in 2000 with the help of Mike Pinner, a member of the Jack Nicklaus golf designing team. Vall d’Or Golf - Felanitx, South Mallorca

Vall d’Or golf course is set in a splendid location close to the sea, about 40 minutes drive from the resorts of Cala Bona and Cala Millor. It began life as a 9 hole course in 1985, and was redesigned in 1993 by American architect Bradford Benz to make a full 18 hole course. It’s a short but wonderfully presented course and the first 9 holes are set amongst pine trees and have unrelenting views over the Mediterranean sea. Along the course are three lakes and a good number of bunkers with limestone sand. It cannot be described as either flat or mountainous course. Undulating is probably the best word, and due to its location it is well known for its cooling sea breezes. Buggies are recommended unless fit due to it being a hilly course.
