Perched high on the ‘roof of the world’, Tibet experiences a diverse plateau climate, with temperatures decreasing as you increase in altitude and latitude. Lhasa is pleasant year-round, with warm summers and chilly winters, but plenty of sunshine year round. Interestingly, most of the rain falls at night, making exploring the city a joy even during the rainier summer months. Due to its extreme altitude, Tibet experiences the strongest solar radiation in China, so you can expect plenty of sunshine! The winter months are predictably cold, with a surprising lack of snow for such a mountainous region. Temperature variations in a 24-hour period can be startling, often showcasing ‘four seasons in one day’ so be sure to pack plenty of layers for your Tibetan adventure.
A glamping experience inspired by the French writer Constantin de Slizewicz and the tradition of Tibetan caravans along the Tea Horse Road, Caravane Liotard is an excellent choice to experience the remote Yunnan regions in search of the real Shangri-La.
For our guests, we recommend the Caravan Premium which hosts up to 8 guests at a time and can be privatized for additional costs by special requests.
Set up as a spacious bell tent with capacity of accommodating 2-4 guests in each tent, Caravan Premium is equipped with carpets, cushions, Tibetan blankets, bedspread, candlestick and gas heating. Each tent comes with a toileting corner equipped with a mirror, a basin, thermos of hot water and towels.
A dining bell tent is also set up with comfortable cushions decorated with carpets, tablecloth, cloth napkins, candlesticks, oil lamps and dishes. Selection of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, fruits, cakes and other food menu are usually served during breakfast, picnic or tea time. Aperitifs are served with pastis, soft drinks, gin, whisky or local beers around the campfire, while the candlelit dinner typically comprised of three-course dish paired with red wine from France.
During full occupancy of 8 guests, up to 5 service staffs and 15 muleteers will be at your service, as well as up to 40 horses to carry the stewardship and ensure that you will be able to trek with maximum comfort.
