Average time to visit

Kicheche Bush Camp is closed in April and May.

The only time to avoid Kenya is during the long rainy season in April and May. November is considered the short rainy season, however, these are less predictable and are much lighter. The best time of year to visit the Maasai Mara is during the Great Wildebeest Migration which tends to pass through the Mara between mid July to late October.

To start planning your holiday to Kicheche Bush Camp

Kicheche Bush Camp is a small, intimate, luxury tented camp that is completely unfenced and accommodates a maximum of 12 guests in six large elegant en-suite tents in a wonderful and remote part of the Maasai Mara Conservation Area.

Kicheche Bush Camp is located in the Maasai Mara Conservation Area within the Olare Orok Conservancy which, with its strict limit on bed numbers, offers an excellent game viewing experience away from the crowds. The camp is located in a prime wildlife area and game viewing starts right from the camp itself. The location is also ideal to experience the wildebeest migration.

Six spacious, fully insect-proof tents are equipped with twin or double beds and overlook the plains. Bathrooms are en-suite and equipped with a dresser, flush toilet and a traditional safari bucket shower with a view.

There is a large open sided dining tent, overlooking the plains which also has a relaxing lounge area with a selection of reference books. Most meals are taken alfresco, beneath the shade of the acacia trees or underneath the stars or in the dining tent.

Kicheche Bush Camp now offers escorted walking safaris with overnight stays in a fly-camp in the bush. These excursions are led by one of Kicheche's senior guides and an armed ranger. It is an outstanding opportunity to see the Mara from a completely different perspective and also offers some welcome exercise whilst on safari. You will explore the smaller aspects of savannah life - birds, grasses, and insects - and may even be lucky enough to encounter some larger game en-route

Kicheche Bush Camp has six fully insect-proof custom designed tents, with twin or double beds, linen, bedside tables, luggage racks and rugs. Bathrooms are en-suite and are equipped with a dresser, flushing toilet and a traditional safari bucket shower with a view. There are comfortable chairs on each verandah overlooking the plains. One tent can be converted into a triple on request.

Kicheche Bush Camp welcomes children but the camp is unfenced so is not suited to very young children and for this reason children must be supervised at all times. Food can be tailored to suit children and earlier meal times can be arranged where necessary. Babysitting can be organised for those that require it.

The activities from Kicheche Bush Camp are based around game viewing and visits to a local village and school. All the guides have expert knowledge on local wildlife and folklore and are ideal companions on a game drive or walking safari. Kicheche now offers escorted walking safaris with overnight stays in a fly-camp in the bush. These excursions are led by one of Kicheche's senior guides and an armed ranger. Balloon trips over the Mara can be arranged when required.

Kicheche offers a truly immersive bush experience. This rustic safari style camp feels luxurious, but not over complicated while still maintaining all the creature comforts that you can possibly need. This camp is all about the game drives and is in the perfect location in the private conservancy to have excellent game sightings with little other cars around. The food at the camp is excellent and the survice never skips a beat. Kicheche Bush appeals to everyone of all ages and is specifically geared for photography, whether you are a beginner or professional, the guides will make sure you get to pictures or a lifetime.

The recently renovated camp is fantastic with a really authentic safari feel in the middle of the quiet Olare Motorogi Conservancy. Game viewing here is spectacular and lots of National Geographic photographers come to stay for weeks at a time to make the most of the abundant wildlife and easy access to the Migration River Crossings. The camp managers Emma and Darren are incredibly welcoming and make you feel at home at once. The whole camp has a very relaxed feel and if you would like to go on a 14 hour game drive then that is completely up to you, take your breakfast, lunch, snacks and sundowners and head out to really explore the bush and catch some incredible sightings.
