The main season is in January and February, when the weather is hottest and driest. At this time, the animals in the wildlife parks tend to congregate more around the watercourses, making them easier to spot.
Northern and eastern Kenya temperatures vary from highs of up to 40°C during the day to less than 20°C at night. Rainfall in this area is sparse and, when it does occur, is often in the form of violent storms. July is usually the driest month, and November the wettest.
To start planning your holiday to Ekorian's Mugie Camp
Ekorian's Mugie Camp is situated within the heart of the Mugie Sanctuary in the Northern Laikipia region of Kenya. This is the perfect place for families to combine game drives with walking safaris, kayaking, fly camping and more.
Ekorian's Mugie Camp is located in Kenya on the Mugie Wildlife Conservancy. It is a family-run camp providing a comfortable and rewarding safari experience for guests. The owners have an extensive background working at safari camps across the country and the small team of staff are enthusiastic in creating the best experience for guests whilst providing great Kenyan hospitality. This semi-permanent lodge was built with an eco-friendly mindset and many aspects of the camp reflect this, down to small details like using reusable water bottles with filtered water rather than plastic bottles.
There are six spacious yet cosy tents, including one family tent which has a small annexe off the main tent, perfectly created for young children. All tents are built raised on wooden decks with a papyrus roof. Due to the eco design of the camp charging points are only available in the reception area.
Meals provided to guests throughout their stay are based on tasty and traditional home cooked meals using locally sourced ingredients. They are held either in the dining area, by the pool or out in the bush, depending on the individual guest's choice. For safety a stone wall and electric fence are built around the camp to keep larger wildlife such as elephant away from the camp. There is a small eco-friendly pool, built into a wooden deck with a picturesque view over a local waterhole. The pool area is the ideal place to relax at sunset whilst enjoying a drink and gazing over the vast expanse of the stunning African landscape.
There is a wide variety of activities available to guests throughout their time at Ekorian’s Mugie Camp. Game drives are a great opportunity to search for big cat, elephant, zebra and giraffe amongst other wildlife. Guided walks are also highly recommended to explore the surrounding area from a different perspective, alongside other activities including kayaking, fishing, golfing, visits to the local villages, and many more. A unique experience especially enjoyed by guests is taking part in a walk with the camp's bloodhounds, used on anti-poaching patrols, to learn about their specialised skills and their role in conservation across reserves in Kenya. The camp and its surrounds are also a great place for bird-watching most commonly spotting wagtails, weavers and sunbird with four different species of owl also living in the camp.
There are six tents at Ekorian's Mugie Camp, one of which features an annexe specifically designed for children. Tents are raised on wooden decks and covered with papyrus roofs, and each has en-suite facilities including flush toilets.
Children are more than welcome at Ekorian's Mugie Camp, and there is a family tent with annexe perfect for younger children.
Meals at Ekorian's Mugie Camp are taken in the dining area, by the pool or even out in the wilderness with a bush picnic. All dishes are prepared using locally-sourced ingredients, as well as home-grown vegetables.

Ekorian's Mugie is a super little camp, incredibly welcoming with excellent guides and a gorgeous position in the northern part of the Laikipia. From here we enjoyed game drives and walks in this pristine area - and also canoeing on the dam, where you can float right up to elephants and buffalo and get some incredible photos. Ekorian feels intimate and small, Donna and Josh are lovely hosts, and nothing is too much trouble. With the new tracking collars on the cheetah and lion in the area we were able to get some great sightings, and the camp itself - with its friendly camp dogs welcoming you home - was a great place to stay. This is a really good spot for family groups as with the size of the camp you often have it completely to yourself.
