Average time to visit
Isolated from much of India by the Western Ghats, the climate of Kerala & Karnataka is tropical and as a result of the mountain ranges the area isn’t as dry as much of India. The best time to visit is from January through to April. While there can be the occasional light showers these are just a prelude of the wet weather to come. The weather is generally hot and humid during this early summer. The monsoon season arrives in early June and thus can wash out July and August. September is much more humid as a result of the rainy season, and the fall can be dry but with the humidity this makes it feel quite warm. There can be a little rain in the night in October and November. The temperatures cool down and the humidity lets up as winter comes in around December, with this season lasting until February when the dry spring returns. Winter can be a pleasant time to visit, especially if you’re looking to head off the beach and explore the rest of this Indian land of mystery.

Old Harbour, which was a Heritage monument of Fort Cochin, is now a beautifully traditional boutique hotel with plenty of character. At the heart of this ancient city, the Old Harbour hotel is a perfect retreat to escape the hustle and bustle.
This Keralan city is bursting with culture and history. The Old Harbour hotel, just a small distance from many of the great attractions, is a small luxurious hotel with the original façade and architectural elements.
The thirteen spacious rooms, with high ceilings, have views over the courtyard and fountain or over the ancient Chinese fishing nets, which are a very popular attraction of Cochin. The stylish rooms provide an eclectic blend of antique furniture and varied art, and this combination offers a feel of Kerala. The Cottages are situated in the gardens of this hotel and the warmth of the morning and evening sun can be appreciated by having an open-to-sky-shower.
This homely boutique hotel has a restaurant which will cater to all guests' needs. Being situated close to the Chinese Fishing Nets, a huge variety of seafood is served fresh from the nets, and they have a special seafood menu with a barbecue every night in the garden. The Old Harbour is home to plenty of fresh organic foods and juices throughout the day. From this hotel there are plenty of sites within walking distance and a guide can be arranged for morning and afternoon tours.
There are thirteen spacious rooms at Old Harbour. Each are named after various street names in Fort Cochin and have views of either the courtyard or the ancient Chinese fishing nets. The rooms have high ceilings and are complete with antique furniture. The garden cottages have a veranda, a private pond and open-air showers.

In the heart of old Cochin, this 300 year old building is in an amazing location where you can walk to shops, restaurants and cafes. The rooms are large with high ceilings, modern bathrooms and antique furniture mixed with modern artwork and antiques. Although a small property with only one restaurant, the food is excellent and staff friendly. There is a small swimming pool, beautiful gardens and a small spa on the roof. Wifi is available in public areas but not in rooms. The property is small but very central and is within five minutes walking distance to the Chinese fishing nets, Vasco de Gama tomb and local restaurants and cafes. It is suitable for families but not with small children as it is open to the main street.

Located in the heart of Cochin Fort, Old Harbour is a great option for those who prefer smaller, boutique properties. With only thirteen rooms, the property is very intimate and, although the building is very traditional in its design with lots of beautiful antique furniture, it's still fully equipped with modern amenities. The rooms are very spacious with high ceilings and the Garden Cottages offer wonderful open-to-sky showers.

This hotel has a really lovely feel to it. The second you walk in you feel at home and can begin to relax from the wonderfully lovely city that is Cochin. The building is 300 years old but equipped with all the modern amenities you could possibly wish for. One lovely touch that adds to the general personality and character of the place is that they use the old original old fashioned phones in the rooms - and they work! I checked!
Backwaters - Experience Kumarakom
Kumarakom is a village based on the edge of Lake Vembanadu. The village is beautifully laid out over a number of different picturesque islands and is a wonderful example of how people live in the backwaters.
Periyar - Boating at Lake Periyar
Boating in the splendid artificial lake formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam across the Periyar river adds to the charm of the park. Spot some fascinating wildlife from the boat including animals coming to drink on the lake.
