Itinerary

Dive into elegance on this exclusive and luxurious tour of Southern Africa that bursts with properties that step away from the norm. Gaze in awe at the majesty of Victoria Falls as it thunders over the brink, search for lions as they stalk the channels of the Okavango before the impossibly soft powder white sands of Mozambique’s irresistible beaches beckon. We’ve peppered this journey with inimitable experiences and peerless stays for a truly beguiling trip.

  1. Fly to Livingstone

  2. Days 1-3: Victoria Falls - the Zim side

Travelling to Victoria Falls is a breeze with overnight flights via Johannesburg. On arrival you are met and whisked off to the banks of the Zambezi River where Matetsi Victoria Falls awaits. Perched on the banks of the mighty waterway in the Matetsi Private Game Reserve, each elegant suite boasts private river views from your deck, best enjoyed from the plunge pool where your own personal butler looks after your every need. Intertwining a natural feel with luxury local touches, this is Victoria Falls’ most exclusive stay.

Mosi-oa-Tunya or, the Smoke that Thunders, is one of the seven wonders of the natural world, and every guest can explore this marvel with a guided tour. For an extra cost, soar over the rising spray in a helicopter flight over the waterfall, a seriously special sight. Stay closer to home and immerse yourself in the serenity of the surroundings. Set out in the golden light of the afternoon as the setting sun turns the water to liquid gold on a sunset cruise, or drift over the limpid waters in a canoe, watching elephants quenching their thirst along the shore. Whether you wish to start your safari early on a game drive or simply indulge in some of the continent’s most exquisite gastronomy, Matetsi is a remarkable start to any adventure.

Accommodation: Matetsi Victoria Falls (2 nights)

  3. Days 3-6: Nxabega Concession

It’s only a short transfer across the border to Kasane where you board your light aircraft flight to the lazy channels of the Okavango Delta. Keep your binoculars close as you soar over the wilderness below, as elephants can often be spotted from the skies. Dotted along the edges of an open floodplain, Nxabega blends modern luxury with an authentic safari feel for an intoxicating experience. With only nine suites, all raised to make the most of the Delta outlooks, sit out on your hanging daybed in the dappled shade of the towering Ebony trees, watching giraffes as they pass, before relishing the space of the airy rooms. Or perhaps sit round the crackling fire while a sumptuous feast is prepared for you to feast on under the blazing African stars.

Located on the western side of the Delta, bordering the Moremi Game Reserve, Nxabega offers the full Okavango encounter. Drift along the open channels where hippos snort in the distance on a boat safari, you can even try your hand at fishing. A mokoro ride is a serene way to spend a morning or afternoon, quietly admiring the beauty of the smaller details as kingfishers dart around and bell frogs sing from the reeds. Seek out the area’s giants on a game drive, which can even go out after dark to spot elusive predators as they stalk the night. For those looking for a thrill, a walking safari is a must where you are guided through the bush by your expert guide, who brings the Delta to life.

Accommodation: &Beyond Nxabega Okavango Safari Camp (3 nights)

  4. Days 6-9: Chitabe Concession

This morning it is a short flight across to the south east of the Okavango and your final safari home, Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge. Architecturally striking, with its curved organic lines shaped like a pangolin, this luxury lodge teems with style and boasts some of the most exceptional game viewing in the Delta. The seasonal floodplain stretches out before the lodge, while the heat is kept at bay by the swaying trees above. Each of the 12 suites offers complete privacy, cocooned by the surrounding vegetation, while your deck replete with plunge pool, makes the most of the sweeping views. After a day seeking out the wild dog, cheetah and lion that proliferate here, stretch out the limbs in the gym or perhaps indulge in a massage in the spa sala while the sounds of the wild soothe the senses.

Stretched along the edge of the Moremi Game Reserve, the mosaic of habitats around the lodge attract Africa’s most sought-after wildlife. Cheetah, rhino, lion, leopard and wild dog are all regulars on game drives here, and for those wanting to go deeper, a walking safari opens up the magic of the bush to a new level. You arrive in style by helicopter, as civilisation is left behind on the mainland. Scattered along the powder sands of the vast beach, the lodge sits under the cool shield of palm trees and forest canopy. Time seems to stand still here, where sustainability meets laid back luxury for a halcyon escape. Traditional touches and style oozes from the spacious thatched accommodation, where every room overlooks the ocean. Sit around the infinity pool, palms mirrored in the lapping waters or sample cocktails at the dhow bar as the sun lazily sets over the horizon.
