Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The climate in New Zealand is incredibly pleasant, with warm and balmy summers and cold crisp winter months with wonderful clear, blue skies. The warmer high-season months of November to April are perfect for outdoor exploration. The colder months of June to August are the best time to ski.

Both North and South Islands are drier on the east coast, rather than on the west, where mountain ranges act as a trap for the moisture-rich winds from the Tasman Sea. It is also worth remembering that it is usually a few degrees cooler on the South Island than the North Island and as New Zealand has a maritime climate, the weather can change rapidly.

First stop is the arrestingly beautiful Bay of Islands. Just a short flight away from Auckland yet a million miles away in terms of seclusion and serenity, The Bay of Island offer the perfect destination for a bit of respite at the beginning of your New Zealand honeymoon. From kayaking around the beautiful bays and inlets to adventurous wild dolphin swimming, the Bay of Islands offers a plethora of water-based activities for you to enjoy. Accommodation: Eagles Nest (2 nights)

  3. Days 3-5: Waiheke Island

Returning to Auckland, take a short ferry across the Hauraki Gulf to the abundant island of Waiheke where boutique vineyards rub shoulders with olive groves and galleries.  Known for being Auckland’s premier wine producing island as well as a haven for city-dwellers, this island is famed for its wide range of locally produced delights from organic soap to variety of award-winning cabernet sauvignon’s. During your time on Waiheke we have included a guided food and wine tour allowing you to visit several high-end vineyards and sample some of their premium wines. During the tour you will also enjoy a gourmet 2-course luncheon with matching wines overlooking one of the islands picturesque vineyards. The rest of your time on Waiheke Island is at leisure. You may like to visit the many jewellery and art and craft shops that line the streets of the islands main town Oneroa or hire a sailboat for the day, pack a picnic and find a deserted beach where you can enjoy the magic of Waiheke all to yourselves.

    Accommodation: The Boatshed (2 nights)

  4. Days 5-8: Central North Island

From islands and beaches, to native forests and glassy lakes, the geothermal wonderland of Rotorua will be your home for the next few days. Built upon an active volcanic landscape Rotorua is known for its bubbling mud-pools, towering geysers and natural spa’s and offers a complete contrast to the first half of your New Zealand honeymoon. We have included the ultimate Rotorua experience which will see you enjoy a scenic helicopter flight over the waters around Lake Rotoiti before enjoying an immersive experience with a Maori Community, hearing ancestral stories and assisting in the preparation of a traditional Hangi meal before spending the afternoon sailing on your private luxury catamaran.

  5. Days 8-11: Nelson

The South Island beckons and flying from Rotorua via Wellington your base for the next few days will be in the popular town of Nelson. Nestled between Abel Tasman National Park, New Zealand’s sunniest region and Marlborough, the countries largest producer of Sauvignon Blanc, Nelson offers you the chance to experience the very best the top of the South Island has to offer from hiking to sailing, seal colonies to wineries, galleries and more. We’ve included an epic Abel Tasman day trip and cruise allowing you to sail along the scenic coastline passing the famous geological sights of Split Apple Rock and Fisherman’s Islands before docking in a sheltered bay for a freshly prepared lunch. Spend the afternoon in a tandem kayak meeting the inquisitive local dolphins or borrow a snorkel and discover the underwater world here.

  6. Days 11-13: Kaikoura

Next, hire a car and drive south along some of New Zealand’s most breath-taking coastal roads. Skirting east around the top of the South Island you will follow the natural curve of the coastline as you drive south towards the town of Kaikoura, know as the maritime serengeti of New Zealand. Nestled between the Kaikoura Ranges and the Pacific Ocean, Kaikoura is a small but mighty town and offers the best whale watching opportunities in the country. We have included a whale watching cruise out into the Hikurangi Trench where you will have the opportunity to encounter a wide range of marine wildlife from dolphins to sea- birds not forgetting the stars of the show, the orcas, blue whales and minke whales that call these waters home.

    Accommodation: Hapuku Lodge (2 nights)

  7. Days 13-17: Queenstown

After a short transfer from Kaikoura to the garden city of Christchurch, catch a short flight across the mountainous spine of the South Island from east to west landing in the adventure capital of New Zealand, Queenstown. A haven of adventure why not explore Mt Aspiring National Park on an exhilarating 4WD adventure or enjoy a more sedentary cruise along Lake Wakatipu. You could celebrate the end of your honeymoon in style with a helicopter flight to a remote mountainside for a private picnic or enjoy a bottle of the finest champagne atop a glacier in Mt Aspiring National Park. We’ve included a private boutique wine tour of the Central Otago region where you will discover the beautiful landscape around Queenstown as you visit vineyards famed for producing some of the worlds best pinot noir.
