A once in a lifetime family adventure exploring Hong Kong and New Zealand from the land, air and sea. Go whale watching whilst in Kaikoura, explore the beautiful beaches in the Bay of Islands and enjoy action-packed family experiences in the adventure capital of the world, Queenstown.

  1. Days 1-5: Hong Kong

Breaking up your journey to Aotearoa in Hong Kong allows your family time to adjust to the different time zones and offers a glimpse into life in a fast-paced modern Asian city – very much the antithesis of the rolling hills and mountainous landscape of New Zealand. Explore the bustling colourful markets that line the streets of this cultural city or relax in your chosen accommodation before you continue your journey to the land of the long white cloud.

Accommodation: Peninsula Hong Kong (4 nights)

  2. Days 5-8: Bay of Islands

Here the scenery, friendly locals and slow pace of life will enthuse you and your journey will be long forgotten. Whether you opt to reside in a family-friendly private villa overlooking one of the picturesque bays or choose to stay in a hotel with multiple facilities here you will want to spend your time outside in nature. Head off on a family foraging adventure and collect scallops and mussels to throw onto the barbecue for your lunch or hire a skippered boat and tailor a day in the bay all to yourselves. We have included a boat trip around the Bay of Islands where you will have the chance to spend time with the inquisitive dolphins that play in the bays calm waters – if the conditions are right you might even get the opportunity to swim with these magnificent creatures in the wild.

    Accommodation: Eagles Nest (3 nights)

  3. Days 8-11: Rotorua

Heading south from Paihia, drive through Auckland and the heart of the Bay of Plenty to the geothermal heartland of New Zealand – Rotorua for a three-night stay. We’ve included a guided tour around Te Puia – a Maori run experience the whole family can enjoy. Together with your guide explore the geothermal wonderland by car-train, marvelling at the bubbling mud pools and volcanic rocks that litter the landscape here. Children will love watching the small but mighty geysers explode and it’s a great way to get the whole family excited by nature. You will also get the opportunity to visit the resident Kiwi house where you can look out for the nocturnal Kiwi before heading to a marae (meeting house) where your family will enjoy a traditional Maori welcome. The rest of your time in Rotorua is at leisure – you might want to take the gondola up to the sky park and enjoy wide range of family-friendly activities on offer there or take a day trip to Hobbiton in nearby Mata Mata where you family will love climbing in the hobbit houses and exploring the impressive living film set.
